honda cg 125 clutch

hello all

im having a problem with my old cg 125

ok so i began to notice the clutch slipping when changing through the gears on my cg so i adjusted the clutch cable and got the biting point back to where it should be 1cm - 2cm it says in the manual i thought this would stop the clutch slippage

i noticed the lever felt a bit slack so i bought a new clutch cable and all the slack is still there

also today i was flat out in 5th doing about 60mph and the bike felt and sounded as if i was dipping the clutch in and out really fast

does this mean i have to replace the clutch plates will i need new springs, im unsure but i know something isnt right

also the bike seems a little slower than i remember could this be why

Take the RHS engine cover off and check the plates for wear, you should be able to see a good bit of meat on the plates.

If it was jumping off the line I would say check the chain and sprockets fro excessive wear, since a very worn sprocket or loose chain can jump around the sprocket and not come off, but cause similar symptoms.

it certainly sounds like the clutch friction plates are worn, as Mark has said, you need to remove the clutch cover to do this job.

It is possible to measure the thickness of the friction plates and compare them to the thickness the manual states, though you do need a vernier calliper to do this. Tbh, if it were my bike, I'd just by new friction plates and be done with.

You'll also need new clutch springs and I'd recommend buying a new clutch cover gasket too. David Silver Spares are a good place to source parts.

While you're in that side of the engine, it's worth cleaning out the centrifugal oil filter - though you'll need an impact driver to remove the three 5mm X-head screws: it's one of those jobs that often gets overlooked on these engines.

Don't forget to fill her up with new oil when you're done

thanks for the replies

im going to order some new plates and springs sometime this week

i cleaned the centrifugal oil filter about 150 miles ago so think it will be good for now

can someone let me know if the centrifugal oil filter has to come off for the clutch plates to come out its in an awkward place sort of hangs over the clutch

yep, it does need to come off to allow the plates out.
