Laughing No idea where to start.

Stolen/recovered WR450, 2005 model, dirtier than a London hooker, leaks more too.

It need on first glance.

A full wiring loom.
Fork seals.
Severe tidying up and painting parts of frame to deal with rust.

Jobs for tomorrow...rebuild my Ninja and move out of the shed, stick this in its place and strip it down and get the engine out of the frame.

Rub frame down, get most of the rusty bits covered in primer and start cleaning bits up.

This is going on the road, right? Sumo wheels, then. My preliminary googling also suggests that you'll also want oil. Lots of it.

Does it run ok?

Sumo wheels in time...after its been road reg'd otherwise it is likely to fall under the minimum height and clearance thing.

Engine seems as sound as a pound.

It will run nicely when the electrics aren't just 8 feet of multi coloured wire. Laughing All I want is electric start wired in, lights will come at a far later date.

All it needs is a set of zip ties to bundle it together in the right places, then a bout of swearing and self-amalgamating tape to tidy it up. It's not fun, but it certainly is cheaper, as well as affording you the opportunity to spot and sort any potential problems.

I'm not sure how complex wiring a set of lights in would be - you'd have to ask someone that's electrically competent for a straight answer to that one, but my recent experience of checking over a loom tells me that it's not as terrifying as all that, just time-consuming.

Do you have all the bits to do the lighting, like brake switches, appropriate buttons on switchgear and so forth?

Nothing.

There is no switchgear. There is nothing electrical on the bike at all, no wiring for the lights. The lighting kit is apparently an additional option you can get from Yamaha which plugs in to the loom.

The loom has been chav'd and looks nothing like its original spec.

Ah. Fair enough; my off-road experience only goes as far as parking up on gravel Laughing

As for the chavtabulous electrics, I'm genuinely surprised they got it running, if it really hath been wrought by the retarded hand of Kevin T. Scrote.

When you inevitably get bored of this, first dibs.

Wiring isn't that bad on most of these bigger four strokes that I've found. Would carry around sets of fuses, my drz and te both had a habit of blowing main fuse when starting when they are hot.

Let me know if you get stuck with anything, as ever I'm very good at brute force and hammering.

I'd just wire it yourself. A gn250 lights switchgear is easy, three wires from it go to the battery, then the others go to indicators, high beam, low beam and horn.

Thumbs Up

Bike looks savage mate, I'd love one of those. Smile

My YZF450 (Racing Thoroughbred brother of this bike), ran a total loss electrical system.
Small battery tucked up inside the seat, to some basic switch gear, for a stop/tail light, a high/low headlight, and a horn. That was it.

Wiring, I did myself, was very easy to do.

Yours will be similar, but ran from a reg/rec, instead of a battery.

Bike looks cool. Another 'dibs' if you like, on this if you get bored of it. I do miss my YZF massively!

Bit of inspiration for you:

Could get mine from this:

In around 10 minutes.

Oh, and sometimes, they like to do this: Laughing

Oh Ben, I miss that bike... would have had that off you Laughing

Maybe you can give me a hand with this one, I'm ordering a new wiring loom as mines been chav'd with.

Oh, I removed the engine today, it has been standing outside for a few months with no cover and no spark plug Rolling Eyes Needless to say its got some water in there.

Engine flush may need to be used here...or constant flushing with oil?

No oil in water... head gasket seems fine and bike does "go" but not now as the loom is removed.

The carb is massive. I've never seen a carb that big in my life Laughing

His bike shat its oil from the sump.. He did try calling me Laughing

His bike was fucking mental though. I'd never really wheelied before, usually was loads of revs and clutching it.

Fuck that, open the throttle in any gear Laughing

Le Update.

Today we have stripped the carb.

I believe something may have been left out by accident so will need stripping again... carb seems to be leaking loads now we have touched it, out of the overflow pipe.

BUT

It sparks now, it has start and stop buttons, all it needs is fuel.

Also, anyone got any titanium exhaust parts at all? I am amazed at the weight of these parts, the downpipe weighs as much as an empty can of relentless Laughing

If so, someone has trolled me as the carb had it in the other way. As to the spring, fuck knows Laughing

Have it apart again, take photographs this time. Having the floats the wrong way up could well cause an overflow. However, if this thing has been torn apart by chavs prior to now, it's best to go over everything yourself, just to make sure.

As far as I'm aware, that diagram is accurate; it was listed as being for an '05 WR450F.

Re my YZF450:

It chucked all it's oil out after having a full gearbox rebuild. They have 3 oil drain screws. Must have forgot to tighten one back up. Was on the country lanes, arse end kept stepping out, and I assumed I had a flat on the rear.
Looked down, and was caked in fucking oil! Laughing

Pulled over promptly, had a pal come up with a few basic tools, a litre of oil, and a handfull of M8 bolts. Whacked a bolt in, filled it up, and rode home.

Chain tension was spot on that day, as I'd literally put the bike back together an hour previous to that.
Looks slack, that's just how they're meant to be. Have it any tighter, and they stretch really quickly...
