Going down the road behind a car and another bike (Aprilla RS). The bike was positioned to the right of the lane, inline with the car r/mirror.
Two speed bumps came up ahead, then the car swerves to left in attempt to go over the speed bump closest to the pavement. Whilst the driver swerves to the left, the guy on the aprilla rs tries and overtake, only to be met by the side of the ford fiesta as the driver in car swerves right after going over the hump.
Was pretty nasty, first time I've ever seen gravel rash and human bone .
Staying with the rider added 20 minutes to my journey, hope he would of done the same for me.
Now since I've given him my details is there a possibility of me having to go to court as a witness? and is the biker at fault? |

Speedbumps are a traffic calming measure, usually in a 20mph zone, if he was doing about 40, i'd say it was his fault. Sorry |

It does sound like the rider was being stupid here.
Nevertheless, seeing a bike crash for the first time is a pretty nasty experience. The only one I've seen *touch wood it stays that way* was along the main road of the village I went to high school in. I was walking home from school, and the biker was coming towards me, when I saw the car shoot out of a side road without looking. Biker hits the car as there was no time to swerve and he goes over the top of the car, fortunately not into the path of oncoming cars. Bikes ricocheted off the car and hit the deck, spinning. Biker's laying there, but fortunately he is moving a little. Car driver gets out and see's to him, other car drivers stop and try to sort the bike out. I did offer to leave my details as a witness, but they declined - I was only 14 at the time.
Pretty nasty thing to see, but didn't put me off fortunately.
As a side note, when you come off because of a cyclist, never expect them to stop and help you. Bastards. ____________________ CG125-K1 (1978) - 35 years old and (mostly) going strong! (Restored and rebuilt by my own fair hands).

He was probably going around 40mph. |
40mph on a road with speed bumps? Biker got what he deserved. |
30mph non-main roads around London often have speed bumps too, especially at junctions and around traffic islands that serve as crossing pedestrian refuges. I regularly take speed bumps at 40+ when visibility is good and the road ahead is totally clear[1]. Stand up on the footpegs to make the suspension's job easier, and make sure you don't brake (if anything, accelerate) as you're going over the bump, and the bump is usually hardly noticeable.
Cars swerving all over the shop for those road bumps is highly predictable, and to overtake without allowing for the car resuming and potentially over-correcting its previous course is moronic, though. That biker can't have had more than a few hours road experience. He'll have learned a hard lesson.
[1] There are some near my house that were built for pedestrian traffic for the Olympics, had little enough traffic during the Olympics, and have virtually no pedestrians at any time now. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

hope you are ok andrew! i haven't seen a crash and never want to either! lol good for you for sticking with him and taking care of him it seems like biker code to look out for each other
As other people have said though! it seems like it is his fault and atleast he is alive to learn from his mistakes.. was he a learner? |

This was drummed into me during training. If your following a car or what ever and there is a hazard ahead road calming measures speed bumps junctions always wait until the car has passed it then decide if overtaking is safe to do not before. better waste a few more seconds and arrive safe then finish up in hospital bed or worse.it's all about survivals out there folks ____________________ "Nitrous is like a cheap hooker, you want to hit it but are scared of the consequences |

Yeah, most of my karma is actually good - but I started voting down illuminateTHEmind's posts - and they all got revoked, which really fucked up my karma.
