 |
|
If I wanted to import my project bike into the UK, as a box of bits, rather than a whole bike in one piece, what is the procedure.
Can I just crate all the bits up, ship them to the UK, build the bike over a period of time, then say I want to register the bike?
Or do they insist you bring a whole bike in?
Anyone done this before, how did you you do it, and what level of ball ache was it to do? ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

I have all the documents, it's just that the bike is in bits!
The bike's in Cyprus, within the EU! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Hmmmm? I have no idea.
If you sent all the bits to Blighty and then assembled it once you got here, could you not re-register it as a new/restored bike made from parts availible in the UK
Or why not send your kit/stuff over first and ride it to the UK or is it not roadworthy at the moment? ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

Hi
Don't think so to bring it into the country. However if you need to register it in the UK (which I kind of assumed) then it will need an inspection of some kind. On an older bike this is just an MOT (recorded on the chassis number), newer ones a more in depth inspection. The DVLA might want to do a quick inspection as well (well, with an MOT, not sure when it has had the more in depth inspection) to check the chassis numbers, etc.
If it were still on its Cypriot plates / insurance / etc then I presume you could ride it here without an inspection for a limited time.
All the best

One other point.
If I were to crate everything up and declare it as personal effects, can I build the bike up, at a later date, then present it for inspection and MOT? ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Hey Sid, can you put a couple of packs of Haloumi, some olives and a giant bar of that sesame/cashew stuff in the box for me please? ____________________ Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're probably right |
