got an ns125r and the cylinder has several hairline cracks in it, i have a spare one but im not sure if it will need to be rebored or how much it would be likely to cost, anyone know how i can tell if it needs reboring and/or how much it would likely to be, based in norwich if that helps,
Thanks in advanced |

Mick Abbey charge 15 quid per cylinder plus a fiver postage back to you. https://www.two-stroke-addicts.freeserve.co.uk/mick/home.htm
I got mine re-bored and honed for £35 at my local re-bore shop.
Probably best if you either took some good pictures and uploaded them or even take the barrel to a bike shop, most would advise and probably recommend a local place. ____________________ Current: 50cc Suzuki scooter.

What did you get rebored? Sig says you have an RSX100.
As far as I know, that's a plain iron liner in an alloy barel, and CAN be rebored.
NSR as I recall has a Nikasil Chrome bore, which I dont know, but may be plated directly onto the auminium.
Either way, they cant be re-bored.
Two stroke specialist job, to get the barel reconditioned, either a new liner shrunk in, or the old plating removed and new plating put on.
Or its a new barrel.
I doubt very much that it will cost as little as £15... ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Yes, there is a difference between the top and bottom, or in some cases middle, ring, you always use the top ring to measure and it needs to be brand new. With cast iron bores, the cylinder might have been rebored already so you need to check the piston for marks to find out which size ring to use, ie: 1st, 2nd or 3rd oversize. Yours sounds like a Nikasil bore, (plated, like an incredibly hard chrome), so just one size. Nikasil bores last longer than cast iron bores but as Tef says, they can't be rebored, only replated which is more expensive. ____________________ Space Is Deep |
