Posted: 14:04 - 14 Jan 2013 Post subject: Buying category B bikes from auctions |
 |
|
Is there any law regarding purchasing category B bikes from salvage companies.
Essentially, I'm interested in an engine and wheels from a cat B. It ABI category is "BREAKERS" so does this mean I could not buy it?
Do not want to put it on the road either way, would take what I need and weigh the remainder in. |

To quote practically every student from my school in Essex ' I don't get it'.
So far as I'm aware, Category B write-offs cannot go back on the road?

So, it would seem it's either buy the bits you want, or let someone else have them.
Whether the rules can be bent, and you bought the engine whilst it's still attached to the rest of the bike is another matter.
End of the day though, I suppose there's no harm in trying to buy it. Worst case scenario, you get told 'no'. Otherwise, you get the parts you want, some bits you could flog, and bits of metal you can throw at people passing your house, or sell to the pikeys. Win win. ____________________ CG125-K1 (1978) - 35 years old and (mostly) going strong! (Restored and rebuilt by my own fair hands).

"Should" not "Must"
You can chuck it on the road again.
I'd even have it as an off road thing, ideal. But the engine is my gold dust right now |

If it's the site you emailed me about, they want you to have the appropriate waste disposal licence or they'll refuse the sale
Emailed you T&Cs... BCF wouldn't let me post them ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

Should work Seems to only say the person picking up the bike needs to have the licence. Find someone with licence, beer money to pick up, you have bike. Should work right? ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

as in sauce, or source
MCE says "a CAT B write off can be broken for parts, but the FRAME has to be DESTROYED."
Seems legit.
I think Cat A must be crushed - hence why you never see any! ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |
