Whatever way you do it you run the risk of getting nicked for illegal driving. Why do you have to MOT it if you cannot ride it on the road? You might as well wait till you get it legal.

Um, sorry for being a bit thick here, but what would be the point in getting an mot for a bike with false number plates?

No point in getting it MOT'ed until it is road registered as the MOT is done by the registration so if you use a false one when you register it you'd have to get it done again.

MOT is on the frame number (take plate off at mot station )

If it's a foreign bike I believe they can MOT it using only the frame number.

I'm sure what Scooby says is right.....

Also (and i'm not sure whether this helps or not) you can get away with riding a un-MOT'd vehicle to the test centre, so long as the MOT is booked with them, and therefore provable.

Just something I heard Wink

If you book in for an MOT and i give tehm my frame number then

* dont need Tax

* dont need Mot

So it would only be insurance ?? and i could blag that i am coverd 3rd party off my proper policy

isn't that only if a) the bike isn't owned by you and b) the bike owner has a policy that covers it?

I wouldn't be sure, they normally only cover you for bikes which are owned and insured by someone else to stop someone buying lots of bikes and just getting a C90 insured with TPO for other bikes. Doubt it would cover you for a bike which isn't road registered and in the process of being registered.

I reckon to look least dodgy you want just a UK plate but not for a bike you own, just a number plate so it looked legit. It would be just as illegal as using one for one of your own bikes if you got caught but if you wanted to and a cop tried to pull you over you could just go over fields or something to out run them and they won't then come knocking on your door.

I would ask the insurance company if they would be willing to cover the bike for the purposes of taking it down to the MOT centre.

The worst they can do is say no!

They may well charge you 'administration costs' though.

I think most do say it has to be insured by someone else, but do check that.

I presume the 'v5' aint going to be in your name yet if you don't have a plate Smile. So it's a mate's bike that you're taking down to the MOT place as a favour Smile.

Hi

Done this a couple of times, twice with bikes and once with a car.

You need insurance, which can be done on the chassis number (but generally only for a limited time). You will need this insurance to register it anyway.

You can ride an unregistered bike to a pre arranged mot, even without registration plates, but it must be insured. The MOT will be recorded against the chassis number, and when you register the bike they will stamp the MOT certificate with the issued registration number.

All the best

Keith

I rode my unregistered Gixxer to it's MOT no problem, without Tax or a numberplate. The Police said it was fine as long as I was only taking it to it's MOT. If it failed I couldn't take it home though, and had to prove, if pulled, that the MOT was pre-arranged. Very Happy
