Hi all

So my week started off great with Monday my 125 breaking down and pushing it 4 miles home!

Today, got stopped this morning in London (Penton Rise, NW1)

They do this once a month or so but this is the first time me being pulled over. They checked every inch of the bike and checked for insurance, mot, tax, registered owner etc.

One copper wondered why my tyres had chicken strips because I had track day stickers on the front... I simply replied, it's winter and icy Neutral Then he casually walked off thinking, oh yeah Embarassed

They picked up on that I wasn't displaying tax. I told them that I've had 3 stolen in the past so I won't display, but if you check, it's taxed, which they did but still did me for not displaying.

Hindsight, maybe I should have carried the tax disc or stuck it under a panel on the bike.

Luckily just a £60 fine, no points.

What do you do with your tax disc?

I have mine in a tax disc holder near to the footpreg. My bike is garaged but I've never had a problem with anyone stealing whilst out and about.

Keep mine on the bike It's still there I think, I have heard people of putting a copy into the tax disk and putting the real one in the wallet just encase they are stopped.

I don't display mine either, although I do carry it under the pillion seat.

I'm fully aware of the fine for failing to display so I'll just take it on the chin and do an extra 15mins of overtime to pay it Laughing

I've never checked that my tax disc is still on any of the three bikes I've had until it is time to change the disc. Shocked I'm so naive it never even occurred to me that stealing tax discs was even a thing. I better check at lunch!

I leave my tax disc on the bikes. It is a PITA when some shitehawk steals it. Nice £7 a time earner for the Department of Various Lost Articles if you bother replacing it. Report your stolen tax disc and get a ref number, might dissuade the occasional half decent rozzer from ticketing you. The twunts in uniform will ticket you regardless. Tax disc not on display, offence detected, Tax disc not on display, offence detected, Tax disc not on display, offence detected, Tax disc not on display, offence detected, Tax disc not on display, offence detected, issue fixed penalty notice, issue fixed penalty notice, issue fixed penalty notice, issue fixed penalty notice, crime detected, crime solved, my stats look a bit better than they did 5 mins ago, computer says yes. Mine's behind my registration plate, only the corner is visible. However it spins out and in to view effortlessly.

Previously I had one by the chain guard. It got ruined despite the waterproof tax disk holder. The tax disk holder got ruined too though, Oxford shite.

When I bought this bike I had the tax disk attached to the forks. Didn't like it there so I removed it and put it in my jacket pocket. Got pulled like that, copper seemed to be okay with it.However I suspect most wouldn't be.

I had mine nicked out of my van, I phoned plod to report it and get a crime number for the break in.
Wonder of wonders, a copper actually turned up about three hours later, (must have been a slow day for them).

She looked at the van where the lock had been forced, then reminded me it was an offence not to display a tax disc Rolling Eyes

"Yes officer, I realise that, but it's been stolen. which is actually why you're here, isn't it?"

The dozy cow just looked at me blankly, then told me the vehicle needed to be removed from the road, as it wasn't displaying a tax disc, which was an offence Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I gave up then, and left her to it.

On the bike, I have a copy in the tax disc holder, the real one under the seat with copies of my other docs.

Er, put them on the bike, because if they get nicked then... well, I've got no tax disk on the bike.

I can't understand this "but it'll get nicked argument". What good is it doing you sitting in a drawer?

I've taken a scan of mine, if the original ever gets nicked I'll use a colour printout.

What would have happened if the OP would've said well ossifer, that's the funny thing, see - it was stolen this very day. I am going to ring the DVLA as soon as I get in. Or even just just say wtf it was there this morning - BLOODY CHAVS.

What would popo do then? Still £60? Would they really? Man. You'd have to have pissed them off, surely? Cos once they've radio'd through and sussed out you're all paid up, that would suck.

Duh billy club to the head and tased for resisting arrest with a CS gas chaser. Remember the Tomlinson case, the police can use reasonable force for no reason whatsoever!

Wow £60, that is allot for such an offence.
Whenever I get stopped by police officers even if I'm all clean they try and find something wrong.
Like for example a guy who clearly knew nothing about bikes tried getting me due to my aftermarket exhaust. I then told him it was e-marked but clearly he did not know what that was, wasted loads of time.

For sure. I'm just wondering if they'd slap a fine on you if you claimed it had been there that very morning.

Technically they could but they'd have to be douches about it.

I had my tax disc stolen from a car once. Got a £7 replacement (costing a half a day off work as well), and got stopped by a police papier bitten! police check point. Cop mentioned it was an offense not to display a tax disc. I showed him my replacement which said on it replacement or something. He let me go on my way.

Think of police as revenue collection officers and their actions make a lot more sense that way.

It is quite funny when the police report that incident XYZ cost them £100K or something. How can it cost extra when incident or not they are at work.

Cheers for replies.

Thinking of either putting a copy on the bike and carrying original in bike jacket or just carry them on me/keep in bike.

Is annoying that no matter what I said in his 'comments box' nothing would come of it.

They said they are operating all over London till 8-9pm tonight FYI.
