Hi, hopefully, I've chosen the best section for this.
It started for me back in march 2011. My brother rang to explain how he'd decided to start doing his bike test. he'd completed his CBT and Passed his theory and was having lessons.
so I decided that I'd be happy to join him but all I'd want is a 125. so Beginning of april came and I booked My CBT and passed. I immediately went out looking for a bike.
I found a 2002 Honda NSR125 with a bit of damage from where a lad had dropped it, I wasn't put off by this, I'm not too bad with a spray gun.
so off I went and collected this...

the damage was on the left side.
before I had started to respray, I had a couple of minor offs, 1 my fault, the other not.
so anyway... the time came and I started to respray... I was never happy with the colour....

until I eventually found a cadbury's purple pearl.

by beginning of May 2011, My brother had passed his test and purchased a '98 ZX6R. It left me behind and I felt very left out. So... I was bitten by the bug. I sold the NSR to raise funds for the test and another bike. I also sold my car and downgraded it to a smaller banger to free up some funds.
21st June came and I was already looking for bikes, found one that seamed too good to be true, but went to look at it. It just felt right, I knew this was the bike I wanted, so that very same day I fetched the cash and took home my second Bike. a 2001 J2 ZX6R.
https://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j193/paseodj/IMG_0151_zps0f206165.png
My mod1 and mod2 were booked. I passed my MOD2 on the 21st July 2011. insured the bike and was out on it almost everyday.
It cut my journey to uni time down from 2 1/2 hr to just 45 mins.
I'd had the bike for two months by this point. on 21st Sept 2011 I was travelling home from Uni about 5 mins from home and disaster struck....
https://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j193/paseodj/IMG_0068_zps4ac57965.jpg
all I remember is laying on the floor with somebody telling me not to move and that I'd been in an accident. being honest it felt like I'd gotten pissed and fell asleep in the middle of the road.
turns out someone had parked their car on the pavement facing the post office in the pic. they reversed half on and half off the kerb, then proceeded to do a Uturn through a gap in the central reservation. I was coming down the road at 40 mph (40 limit) I was wearing yellow leathers that matched my yellow bike. they hadn't seen me. my head hit the drivers side window, shattering it. I landed on my bike but with my head on the road, unconscious, cutting off my windpipe. a witness to the accident realised that I was struggling to breathe so picked up my body while somebody removed the bike from underneath me, straightening out my windpipe.
I ended up with a bit of a hole in my neck, nerve damage to my left shoulder, numb on the left side of my face, a fractured skull, bruised arm, memory problems and various other cuts and bruises.
I was in a neck brace for three months as the fracture in my skull was where my neck joins it, thirty+ external stitches in my neck and many more internal ones too.
my bike ended up like this:
https://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j193/paseodj/IMG_0158_zps85f8b693.png
for those who aren't squeemish or at work... more photos of the bike and neck are here: https://bit.ly/Ib9EsH
so its now 16 month since my accident. My shoulder is buggered (can't lift my arm too high, nor carry heavy items), left with a nice amount of scarring on my neck and the memory is crap too. I use the Ipad to remind me of things on a daily basis.
I can't see my shoulder getting any better as I've been told to give it at least 18 month, so with only two month to go, its not looking promising, and its worse now than what it was 12 month ago.
the rest of me: I'm 27 from mansfield, notts. live with the other half. currently unable to return to uni, but I'm hoping to go back eventually.
I'm also hoping to get my self another bike soon .
so thought I'd say hi, and hopefully I'l be getting to meet some of you very soon indeed.
hope you've enjoyed my story. |

Claim ongoing. It's hard to judge amounts as there are so many independent variables.
Bike was a write off, if you look in the link at the pics, you can see a bend in the frame on the right hand side.
The crash bungs saved it from a fair bit of damage, but all fairings were cracked, forks bent, radiator bent, front wheel. Two bolts that hold tank on etcetc.
A shame really as I loved the bike. Just playing a waiting game now |

Don't leave it too long, I damaged the nerves on my left shoulder and it took over 2 years to heal, my upper arm is numb but i'm getting a lot of strength back. I damaged the Brachial plexus and it has been an epic recovery since my smash on the S-HIT-RAD. My doctors wanted to cut my arm off but I told them where to go, eventually i was referred to a specialist in london who did a nerve swap and released a lot of pressure from the nerve giving me back my arm essentially, if you have damaged the same please don't leave it too long, muscle waste is a cunt to deal with and caused me a fuck tonne (technical term ) of agony. I'll try to find the doctors details for you if you like think it was Dr Fox but I forget what hospital it is in london right next to euston station. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

Cheers buddy for the info. Isn't dr fox a dj? Haha.
To be honest, I've had the plexus checked and they can't see anything, yet nerve conduction tests reveal there is damage to my spinal accessory and long thoracic nerves.
I'm back for consultation at the end of the month so I'm hoping they can at least give me an answer. I can still use the arm, it's just limited and weaker than the other arm, my shoulder blade sticks out a lot and I'm in constant, yet able to bare it, pain. From what they've said, I could have an op to pin my shoulder blade to my rib cage, but all that would be for is cosmetic reasons, it wouldn't improve functionality, so I don't see the point... Might as well leave it as it is. I'm quite impressed with my sticky out shoulder party trick. It's the pain and limitations I want removing
In regards what I've I'm thinking of getting next....
Funds are limited at the mo, so I'm prob going to get a workhorse for the time being, ie gs500 etc, cheap to insure etc.
I think once everything is settled, I may treat myself, yet there's so many to choose from. I don't want to spend too much, but would like a treat so I'm thinking something maybe a yr or two old. I'm keen on gsxr750, daytona 675 and 848 ducati. Not sure which I prefer yet... I'm going to have to get a few test rides booked. |

Mine was like that 8-9 months after but I pushed hard to regain the strength through pain, also stretching out the muscles was agony. Ahahaha yea there was loads of jokes at my doctors expense when we went for consultations etc, but looking back i wish i would of pushed harder to have the pressure around my nerves released and the swap a lot earlier so the deltoid wouldn't of died essentially. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

Good write up. |
It was a woman correct. Still not 100% whether the car was written off or not, everything I've read says it was potential write off.
Unfortunately though, she had her 13yr old lad at the side of her, can't have been nice for the little fella to witness... My noggin coming through the window almost head butting his mother, swiftly followed by me lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road.

I think my issue is the amount of damage on my neck, it covers part of the posterior triangle. The referred sensations I'm having suggest the nerves have got a bit mixed up plus there must be some extensive scar tissue in there that could be causing the pressure you speak of. Due to the location, I doubt many surgeons would want to touch as it could cause further damage (do a search for iatrogenic spinal accessory nerve injury) that should give you an idea. (For those who may be unsure what iatrogenic is... Put simply it basically means caused accidently via scalpel etc during surgery) ill see if I can get a more recent image of my neck up so you can see what I mean |
