Given the recent spell of shitty weather some chains have probably been subjected to some serious stick. Didn't lube mine now I'm stuck on the on ramp of a motorway lube them well

not only did you not lube it but you didn't put a chain on? no wonder you had trouble.

that's really harsh though, hope you stayed upright, chains coming off can be seriously dangerous.

i'm paranoid now, might even try and find something at the garage nearby i can lube mine with on my lunch lol

Meh, the chain itself looked fine, literally no surface rust or anything, was very dry though, own fault, it snapped on the split link so could possibly be a wank chain.

Lube-ing for winter. I have the rule of : every tank of gas. Summer... Every tank of gas or every other one.

If you use dedicated chain spray (Walloper awaits shower of shite to rain down from on high from the 'used engine oil for chain lube brigage/affectionadoes'.) it' s a simple matter of skoot push forwards, skoot, push forwards skoot and it's lubed.
Every month you can treat it to a proper clean if you are inclined.

But the best thing is an oiler. Scotoiler make the best one in my opinion.

I usually lube once a week but took the car yesterday, would have done it last night but was in traffic till whenever and just went straight home

The CBR will be looked after, this is just the little beast that gets me to work and back. She is allowed to be dirty, if I clean it, it will get dirty the next day

Paddy, you do realise that chains coming off at speed have been known to smash engine blocks?
That could very well have been the end of your engine. Worst case scenario this could have happened at 70mph, smashed your engine block, oil pishing out onto your rear tyre or the engine locking solid and you coming off.

had 2 split links go free on me an IRIS and a DID. My general rule now is check em every time you ride or fuck them off and get a rivet link on there.

Yep UrbanRacer, totally understand that risk.

Luckily, it was just as I was joining a slip road and winding on the powah. Probably 20-30mph tops. It could have smashed a lot more so thank fuck I wasn't sitting at 70

The little clip from my split link also went missing! The more worrying thing is i hadn't noticed and rode 150 miles back home.. Abruptly ordered a rivet link whch is now fitted Reminds me... need to buy more lube

i have to be the first to say

that chain is way to slack

lucky in a way i had 3 chain brakes in 13 years riding 2 fell straight off rolling off the sprocket and i coasted to a stop

the third snapped and wrapped round the rear spindle shredding the swing arm locking the back wheel, i also was luck and was going slow enough to control it
