just done 3/4's of my CBT

couldn't do the road test as it was too windy

but did get to spend about 45mins on a Zaki ER5 - seems a bit faster than on a CG

bloke told me i can do the roadtest on the 500, due to me being tall etc Very Happy

That's unusual, but a nice result.
Downside is that you'll then get the taste for something bigger immediately!

Aye very unusual...how does that work with insurance/legalities for the school out of interest as normally you already need to have your cbt cert for DAS?

I could be utterly wrong of course

Chain's too tight, there needs to be at least 3" of sag in it. Exclamation

That's an interesting question (for very dull and pedantic definitions of "interesting") about riding a big bike on your CBT.

The thing is, I can't put my finger on the bit of legislation that explcitly says that you can legally ride on the road during a CBT. I believe it's implicit that you've provisionally validated your provisional (keep up at the back!) for the duration of the ride.

If so, then your normal provisional entitlement would apply. Hi-vis, L plates and radio contact with a DAS ticketed instructor (with no more than 1 other learner, which applies for the CBT ride anyway) and you're good to do it on a 'Busa.

I was pretty surprised to be honest

instructor just said, "fancy a go on the ER5?" so i said err OK?! if im honest i thought he was taking the pish, as i didn't think you could

after seeing me fly up an down on it, doing u-turns etc he said "you might aswell use that for the road test as you seem to handle it better than the CG

CG was horrible, it was like riding a bmx with my knees hitting me in the face

i might have to sell/ swap mine as soon as its rebuilt Sad

It is perfectly legal to do a CBT on a larger bike, providing that you qualify to ride it (age 19 - 23, max 47bhp, 24> any size under the new laws) and that the instructor is DAS qualified.

However, the instructor has a duty of care, and therefore should only do such a cbt with a student known to be experienced and competent.

Just to qualify the above, the DSA ATB Manual (what governs how we should work) has this following section;

Quote:

4.10.4 Direct access Elements B and C
The ratio for these elements of CBT Direct access trainees is two trainees to one instructor (i.e. where one or more trainee is using a bike larger than a 125cc).

Elements A - D can normally have up to 4 students per instructor, but not so if one is on a bigger bike.
Element E, the road ride, is a maximum of 2 students regardsless.
