b&w wire is usually the wire that comes on when the ignition is off to short the coil and kill the spark to the engine. disconnect and see if it starts. If so check the switch and that everything is wired up correctly ____________________ Honda H100S2 Rebuild - https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253852 |

Have you checked the points for dirty or poor contacts or the ignition coil for defects?
Just make sure the wires from the generator are connected to right ones. Simple as it may seem they are hard to see when they are tucked up beneath the tank and I have got them mixed up plenty of times when messing about with my faulty stator. ____________________ Honda CB500s (1999) - Honda CG 125 BR-J (1991)

Connecting just the black/white wire up should work absolutely fine. Leaving it disconnected where it connects to the ignition switch is correct aswell as that is basically what the ignition switch does anyway in the ON position (disconnects the wire from the green negative wire going to the ignition switch). When in the OFF postion it will short out the spark wire with earth causing no spark.
What you now need to do is check if the earth/negative is wired/connected correctly. First using a multimeter, switch it to continuity test (the one that beeps) and put one probe on the negative on the battery and the other on the black/white wire. If there is any continuity then that is the problem and there is a short somewhere in the loom.
Next check the earth at the ignition coil and test between the green spade connector for the coil and negative on the battery. If there is no continuity then there is a break in the wiring loom or it is not connected. You can even check the frame is earthed at all by putting the multimeter probe on any bare metal eg, the fork stanchion and the other on the negative terminal.
I assume you've not adjusted/gone anywhere near the points? Also if you do get the bike running, put the choke on full with no throttle to kill the engine without the ignition switch |

im guessing this shouldn't happen?
