Yes, you need the plastic bit. It supports the diaphragm and helps to make a seal and keep the system airtight.

Could be worth a brake fluid change as well. As I remember, this bike used to belong to Paddy so it probably hasn't had one, unless Pete did it.

Nope, mine was Mk2 W reg Thumbs Up My brakes were fine ta very much, MOT guy praised them Laughing

That's not Paddy's old bike - his was a Mk2.

Sorry to see that, you should have phoned me as I have a Mk2 master cylinder here that might have the part in it.
