I was just reading another thread about how someone went 200 miles round trip for his dinner and it got me thinking?

How far did you go / go out of your way / detour just for the hell of it?
Not touring trips but just off the cuff moments?

I used to live in Hampton not far from the M3 and when I had the RD 250 LC, I often used to go to Southampton for a paper and a pint of milk Smile

So what about you? do tell Smile

It's an 18 mile round trip for a McDonalds for me, even if I wanted one.

Every trip to a supermarket is a day out lol.

Annoyingly, there are no takeaways within delivery distance of my postcode.

Not that far.. Although I quite often do a 60 or 70 mile round trip to
pick up a bottle of milk.. More like something to do when I'm bored
though, I just happen to pick up a few bits whilst I'm out.

It's not like there isn't any shops close by, 2 tescos, morrisons,
lidl and a multitude of other shops a couple of mes away.

The other summer to avoid going straight home from work I'd take a detour on the bike to have chips at Scarborough. About 125 miles round trip.

I once famously had a sense of humour failure at the religiously lead English state insisting larger supermarkets close at 4pm on a Sunday when I need arborio rice because I've decided to make risotto for tea.

This lead to a 150 mile, high speed tantrum until I found somewhere open that sold it.

Late last year, finished work at 3pm and randomly fancied going to the Ace Cafe just because i had never been before. Wasnt what i expected at all and was fairly pissed off that i had a 170 mile round trip almost for nothing.

Was bike night too but was still naff, i put it down to being -2C. Might pop back for the Brighton Burn up meet this year.

Apart from that, took the missus to Hunstanton and back for fish and chips late'ish one night, only an 80 mile round trip for me though.

I set off for work one morning at the normal time, then turned left instead of right at the end of the road. I just couldn't be arsed going in that day.
The missus called me at about 3pm, asking where I was, I honestly had no idea.
All I could tell her, was that I was sitting on a hillside, watching some hang gliders, and I thought I might be in Scotland. I did about 400 miles that day, instead of the normal 8 mile commute.

250 mile round trip to Hunstanton for a bag of chips, an ice cream and a slightly lukewarm can of Fanta.

Not as far as some of you guys. Usually we go to Betwys y Coed, or the Ponderosa for a bite to eat. Probably 100 mile round trip.

I remember going to Blackpool with a mate on our 125's when we were like 17, set off at about 1 in the morning, had a cup of coffee on the front, and then drove home.

Out of all the things I've done in life I miss those little impromptu motorbike trips the most. We were confined to A roads because of our L plates, but we used to just go anywhere we liked. Reminds me of that song by Richard Hawley "tonight the streets are ours", because they really were, nothing but me and a mate, exploring, seeing where we'd end up, getting back at 7-8AM the next day, in college at 9AM.

Nowadays, it's in bed by 10 with a mug of Horlicks! Oh how I wish I could rewind time.

In the summer i highly recommend the ice creams from there or the little wooden shed round by south beach. Also a trek up the big hill is defo worth ir for a view on a clear day!
