Ignition frozen, not working

Fortunately this has not happened to my bike. My friend's CBF125, though, had its ignition freeze during the recent cold spell. He poured boiling water on it from a kettle on at least one occasion to try and remedy this (not sure if it worked).

He called me the other day telling me it was still fucked and asking my advice. I don't know a thing about this, all I can think of is perhaps the rapid heating he caused by pouring boiling water on it broke it somehow?

Can anyone offer any wisdom here?

The boiling water probably removed any remnants of original lubricant from within the switch leaving only water behind.

Then the temperature dropped to below freezing again...

Any water in there needs to come out and lubricant needs to go back in.

For locks the best stuff is Powdered Graphite.
You can get it in dinky little puffer bottles with cute li'l' pointy spouts specifically for lock lubrication.
The benefit of using Graphite is that it is more or less temperature inert and won't harm any seals.

It may cause massive electrical arcing and cremate your arm when you next try to start though Laughing

yes & you wont wash the grease out with wd-40 but it will soften whats in there.

Definitely this. If you don't have powdered graphite to hand then try rubbing a soft pencil along the key, working it into the lock and repeat until it's working.

My front door lock only gets used when we're away and is prone to seizing with lack of use. This is how I unjam it. Thumbs Up

get it bone dry with a hairdryer then wd-40 or ever better get some grease in it .
