Hi, Ive an old cg 125 k1, with k1 type carb and c type engine (and so carb withou pump)
Ive re-fit a carb-heat shield as i bought it without one, and made sure the float height is correct (according to carb model and haynes manual), and have removed, examined and put back in position the jets to ensure they are clear, then re-set the carb in position with a now correctly fitting pipe between the carb and air box.
Now however the carb is not working correctly (surprise)
It worked to full throttle again, for about 700-1000 yards, but now wont start.
When it does start due to turning the pilot and throttle speed screws, it only starts with very high revs as if the throttle cable is being pulled full throttle, then misfired after less than 10 seconds and wont re-start.
Ive tried setting the pilot screw from as tight as it will comfortably go, then screwing the idleing/throttle screw in half a turn each 2 kick starts, followed by turning the pilot screw out half a turn and repeating the procedure, and so have thoroughly tested the carb to try and get the right settings.
(the throttle cable is as loose as it can be)
Any ideas of my new problem? |

From the bit you said about very high revs I would say take out the throttle needle mechanism from the top of the carb. Make sure it is seated correctly as there should be a groove in one side that allows it to go down all the way. If that's not lined up the needle will stay up high and keep the throttle on high. Had the same thing with my CG. |

points really do affect carberation. We've got used to CDI 's and their precision and reliability in recent history.
With the points out a little it dooes affect fuelling, not greatly though. Some 70's honda carbs can cause the engine to cut out because the choke lever can turn itself on with vibration.
With the ignition timing out there's no chance of setting the carb to more than 80% accurate,so as other op's ....do the timing and start from there. As other op ,Set the jet needle and everything else standard.check for air leaks on inlet between cab, spacer, heatsheild, cylinderhead inlet. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs.
