.
Saturday night I could not sleep. (must have had a guilty complex about something. Wink )

Get up, make a brew etc. Still don't feel sleepy. Crying or Very sad

So about 1:00am I decide to 'just go for a ride' - So I did for about an hour and a quarter. Next to no traffic and the law boys gave me just a casual glance presumably preferring to give the local drunk chav scum a whack over the head.! Very Happy

Mentioned this nocturnal 'ride because I could' to a few people yesterday and today and they all looked at me with a quizzical 'you are not right in the head' kind of way and "You did WHAT.?" type remarks. Laughing

Is this considered normal logical behaviour or should I seek help.? Shocked

If my bike was not blocked in the garage by my dads car overnight I would do this fairly often. Don't think it's weird at all.

Sadly I have to park a car in the way of my bikes on a night nowadays, it's the only way I can sleep properly.

Thats the best time to go out. As you said yourself, no other traffic on the road. I don't think that as being odd at all.

Oh I will definitely do it again. Very Happy

It was other peoples reactions that amused me.! (non bikers)

"Oh my god. You must have been freezing you madman"

The explanation that I was wearing decent warm gear did little to quash their concern for my sanity. Laughing

When I first started riding, one of my favourite things was to cruise around London's West End at about 4 am.

London wasn't quite so 24/7 then, so it was just me, the odd cabby and the dustmen, clearing up from the day before; there was almost an excitement in the air, as the world's greatest city prepared to wake up.

Perectly normal as far as I'm concerned! Life's too short to worry about other peoples opinions. If you want to ride in the middle of the night just for the hell of it then JFDI and enjoy!!!

I'd do this more often if my bike wasn't at my parents at the moment and I'd have to explain why I'm taking the bike out in the middle of the night. I'd frequently extend my journey home at night if I was on the bike though.

I do this quite frequently too... sometimes for the odd trip to Asda at 3am for ben and jerrys.

Went out about a month ago now from 4am until about 8am as I couldn't sleep.. not unusual for me at all Smile

Always out in the wee small hours.. There's something refreshing about going for a ride in the fresh morning air.

Grabbing a coffee and looking over the bay, seeing the harbour come to life and small boats going out for the day, then watching the sun rise.. great start to the day / end of the night.

Normal in our world, not normal in the world where people have to spend all their spare time and money on alcohol. Thumbs Up

If my bike wasn't such a pain in the arse to get out, and I wouldn't wake Mr Yaigi with the noise, I'd do it. Doubt I'd do it in the hope I'd come back and sleep though, it'd wake me up even more!

When I was at uni I worked full time hours in a bar as well as doing full time uni stuff, it played havoc with my body clock and I had real trouble sleeping, I used to do all kindsa things at daft o clock in the morning. One of my fave things to do would be my weekly shop at a 24 hour tesco - not a soul in the place apart from a few staff, it's awesome.

These days I have no trouble sleeping at all, quite the opposite in fact! Mr Yaigi doesn't believe I've ever had trouble sleeping Laughing

I don't know why but it's one of the best feelings in the world to do.

I think it's because it's slightly naughty in my head and against the norm.

Mentioned this to a mate who had a car and his reply was 'it's like you ride a bike for the enjoyment, how weird' Question Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Told my mate who has a bike, he said it was a bit weird, till I got a call at 3am one morning asking me to go for a ride. Told him to sod off on that occasion but went out at 3am with him another time, was really good fun! Like you're on a high, no tiredness at all.

Thumbs Up For making me feel less weird people!

To hit the country lanes in the middle of the night would be bliss! And like someone said the exitement before the city gets up, awesome.

I wish I could explain to people that don't understand.

Motorbike, pushbike, car or just for a walk in the wee small hours. Only ever told the old man about my nocturnal wanderings, he thought I was wierd, I am not fussed what he or anyone else thinks.

I find it helps clear my head if I can't sleep or is imho the best time to be out and about if it is my day off. When I go fishing I often set off at 3 to 4am, it is the best time to be out and driving, while all the numpties, smidsys, talivan operators etc are tucked up in bed.

At night the road is my racetrack. Cool I love having the empty tarmac to myself, it's great. Most of my miles on the bike have been racked up between the hours of 12 and 5am. Thumbs Up

I too have had people think i'm a nutter for going out for a ride at silly hours.
I think these people are weird for thinking it's weird.

People are so caught up in the day-to-day routine, daily activites from X-oclock to Y-oclock, dinner at Z-oclock, bed at Q-oclock etc etc I think they forget that life isn't a pre-set timetable of events. Humans are able to do things when they want to. And so if I want to ride my bike at 1am then I fucking will... What's the big deal?
