Rolling Eyes Not the first to complain about a chinese bike, and surely not the last, but as i got in from work today i had a call off the old man, who now has my old lifan mirage 125, to go pick him up from the side of the a465. Bit odd i thought, but off i went in the van.

As i pulled up next to him, the bike was on the centre stand, didnt seem to look much out of place, but there was a large skid mark down the road behind us. Turns out as he went around a corner the whole rear wheel just fell off the axle and wedged itself under the seat causing him to skid all over the place Laughing

Now the bike is only 2 year old, not too rusty for a chinky bike, and everything was tight when he left for work. Cant really have a look to see what caused it because most of the nuts and bolts are scattered over the road which was rather busy at rush hour, but any idea's?

Poor build quality - my friend's Chinese bike rattled the sprocket bolts loose. I'm sure I read something on here about a swing arm snapping too.

one went into a mates garage for "funny handling", it turned out the frame had snapped off below the headstock and when you went round a bend the steering went one way and the engine and front downtube of the frame tried to go another!

Obviously a loose axle. Which is why you should always threadlock them on a chinese bike.

Owned about 15 or more chinkers, and I reckon I NEVER had an axle come loose.

If the sprocket came off, probably down to the lack of threadlock or not fitted tight enough to start, had this happen ONCE myself, again, threadlock them. Or keep an eye on them at least.

Threadlock is your friend, especially on major components for chinese motorcycles.

Maintenance is key, something obviously came loose.

I've seen a lot of chink off-road bikes snapping in half on YouTube, when teenagers are jumping them and going on MX tracks with them. Laughing

Nope, as Binge would know, we never had any major issues. You only get issues if you go super super cheap from new. (there's a few brands you try and avoid).

Lifan IMO are really decent chinese bikes, Had a lifan pitbike engine, from new I redlined it pretty much, lasted me three full years of ragging around little tracks, then I put it into a road monkeybike for a while, then eventually sold it. Still running beautifully.

If you know what to look out for, you won't have any major issues.

And on the plus side, parts are cheap as f*ck. Who doesn't want a brand new engine for sub £200??? Who can buy brand new tapered headstock bearings for £15-20?? Laughing

Thumbs Up
