So I passed my text last November and last weekend I finally decided on my next bike - a Honda CB500. So I put my deposit down and asked the dealer to get hold of and fit a restrictor kit for me and I was going to have it delivered this thursday; so, naturally I've been looking forward to it a lot - booked the day off work and everything.

Emailed him tonight just to check the bike would be ready for thursday and apparently the restrictor kit is on back order so god knows when that will be back in stock Sad.

I was going to just go for one of the cheaper Ebay ones but didn't in the end as they were not listed at the time. Now that I've gone and committed to buying one from this other place the cheaper ones are back on Ebay.

So I'm pretty gutted now, the dealer I bought the bike from said he's hoping to get it Friday then I can have the bike saturday or sunday - but I can't see that happening Sad.

Anyway thats my rant kind of thing over.

Ahh my washers fell out anyway.
But I got some fancy looking sticker on the bike that has the engine number and 25kw restricted on it and some certificate all from the previous owner.

shit happens mate, especially when you take the day off work for it! Just think though, in a week or two time you'll be cruising around on a proper bike, wish I could say the same.

Please explain???

Yes I do wonder whether my bike will suffer the same fate at some point once I get it. I doubt it though, I'm too boring for that.

Bikermice
Yeah I know, just dissapointing that i've waited ages to get a proper bike and it's now being delayed further. Still I'm sure there are plenty of people who have waited far longer than me.

Buy unrestricted, can't see why you would bother getting it restricted anyway, its a boring as fuck bike with little or no more real world power than 33hp anyway, you'll do 100 with them in (maybe) and 115 without.

My CB500 was slow as hell (struggled to maintain 70) because it only came with the washers and they hadn't bothered to change the jets too like they're supposed to do. Hope your dealer does a proper job.

Don't see why you should change jets.

Personally, would not bother. The washers usually go between carb and engine. It just stops all the fuel going in. It's mixed with air before hand..

I don't understand that either. If it was struggling to hit 70 then I reckon something was wrong with it in the first place. My restricted FZR hits 100 without too much of a fight and all I did was stick the restrictors in between the carbs and the engine like paddy said.

Removing the washers fixed everything!

just bodge some kind of throttle stop, piece of piss, doesnt muck up fueling and keeps fuel economy up. checked with the fez and its all fine as long as you get a signed and dated dyno certificate as proof.

You don't need to do that

Probably because if you get the genuine Honda restrictors it includes different jets and costs considerably less than the other restrictors you can get.

In reality probably not, but I spoke with a bikesafe instructor/police rider who said that the dyno signed by the person who conducted the test would be enough to provide road side proof, it seems to happen all too often that they impound a bike for the suspicion of not being restricted then it gets expensive and laborious to prove your innocence and get the bike back. If you get pulled you can just wave that at the officer and leave.

Was fine.

Sickpup, wasn't aware they did a genuine kit, but what would the reasons for rejetting?

Probably because sticking a washer in the inlets screws your carburation and as you no longer have WOT you can lean off everywhere else for better response and MPG.

Honda Part Numbers: 16221MY5710 ; 16211MY5710 and two of 99101GHB1250

Should come to a total of around £40 delivered, including VAT.

David silvers quote a 7-day lead time on the rubbers. They have the jets in stock.

Any Honda dealer should be able to order these parts in for you.

Absolutely, I used the part numbers that Stinkwheel very kindly posted before to order the correct restrictors and jets for my sisters CB500.

Ordered them from Dave Silver, they arrived within a few days and when I de-restricted it following the end of her restriction I sold them on Ebay for about £3 less than she paid for them.

Cheers
Tim.

How often is that then?

Woll got a Tut Tut after he stacked his bike and the restrictors fell out in the crash. Then there was that chap on the SV650 forums who was nabbed by a clown who insisted that there needed to be something attached to the engine to "prove" restriction.

I can't actually recall hearing of anyone else having their bike seized for Otherwise Than In Accordance on a 25kW license, ever.

Amreet wrote:

No argument there, but I'd suggest that anything that looks remotely like a dyno or restrictor receipt will do the job, without the tiresome and expensive business of actually mucking around with the bike.

Looks like the conversation changed a little, but... Turned out to not be such a letdown after all - I ended up getting my new bike yesterday. Just got in from a decent ride on it. Wow, the power increase from my scooter is HUGE! Absolutely love this bike already.

I'll try and get some photo's of it up when I get chance to take some - raining all weekend though apparently.

Someone from here had to retake their test after veing done for no 33bhp restriction. I forget their name, but they were riding a Z750 at the time IIRC.
