So, a few days ago, I decided to check when my tax was due. Then I go hunting for my V5 and I can't find it.

Then it occurs to me that I may have never received one in the first place, when I bought my bike back in November last year.

I sent a nice email to the DVLA asking them to check if one was ever sent and what they could do to help.

A few days later I receive the following reply -

Dear Mr *******

Thank you for your email received on 3/2/13. Your email reference number is *******.

It may help if I explain that a Registration Certificate (V5C) has been sent to you. However, as you have not received it, I have arranged for a replacement V5C to be sent to you. You should receive this within the next 2 weeks.

Should the original Registration Certificate materialise it must be returned to the address below with a covering letter, as it will no longer be valid.

Who's to say they never sent it?

Could have of gotten lost, happens.

Or they were never at fault at all...

Very true, I may have been at fault, but then it's nice to see that, IF they never sent one in the first place, that I haven't had to fill out a V62, or had to pay £25 for a new V5.

Send them a charge 'fine' stating they never notified you of a change of keeper and for £50 you wont take them to court!
