Sounds like the tests are coming down in price from when I did the DAS a million years ago. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Is that 3 days training, plus a test day, and including the test costs (£90.50)?
(550 - 90) / 4 = £115 a day.
At 200 working days a year (they'll lose some due to cancellations, sickness and weather), that's a gross income of about £23K. Subtract bike and equipment purchase, maintenance and repair costs, fuel and insurance.
How little do you expect trainers to work for? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Is that assuming 1-on-1 training? ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

Most people forget all that, the cost of maintaining 12 training bikes, when at most 4 are earning anything on any given day, damage to the bikes, they are training tools, and therefore get battered a bit.
I am 30 miles from the nearest test centre, so taking a single student to test adds 120 miles of fuel to my costs.
And then there's the rent. My rent totals over £700 per calendar month. Advertising costs and stationary, business cards etc all add up.
I love my job, but I still have to pay my mortgage and feed my family. If it wasn't for the fact I have a pension coming in, I wouldn't be able to keep going as it is.
People seem happy to pay a plumber £50 just to turn up and spend half an hour at your place, yet resent paying £100-£120 for a full days training that will set them up for life.
Compare that to a car instructor as well, the cheapest round here now with a fully qualified instructor is £22 per hour, and they have far less overheads. |
