Just randomly checked gocompare for insurance quotes and I put the "policy start date" to 2 days after I turn 20 this month.

Insurance drops from £80 a month to £50!

Current policy started beginning of december, so I was wondering if it's worth starting this years NCB from scratch for that £300 saving?

Thinking about it, it would probably be easier as every year, 2 days after my birthday I'd be getting renewals through and my extra year of aging will be taken into account instantly Razz

What do you guys think?

Edit: Just got one for a bandit 1200 and it's exactly the same as what I'm currently paying for the 600...hmmm tempting! Wink

It's a big saving, it's worth a go. But just bear in mind all the charges that your insurer will dream up from nowhere when you ring to cancel. You may find that you end up having to still make monthly payments on that policy for a bit, to get it tied up.

Well worth looking into though, that's a big monthly saving. Even if you have to spend £50 to get out of your current policy, it's worth doing.

Yeah, I am wondering what leaving fee's they'll throw in as I only realised the other day that I got an online quote stating all the facts right, only for them to send me my certificate with one of them wrong. I corrected it and sent it back to them only to receive a letter stating it's an extra £30 a year. After thinking about it the other day, I realised that they probably did that on purpose so they could squeeze an extra few quid out of me as the original cost was what was quoted with all the facts right! Laughing

Taking into account other fees which you may have to pay after cancelling your current policy eg cancelling fee

Don't wonder - just read them Smile They'll all be in the broker's terms and conditions (broker's fees) and the insurance policy document (insurer's fee)

Just remember the new insurance laws.

You will have to SORN the bike for the 2 days, keep the bike off the road during this time.

Would I? Confused

I'm thinking of cancelling my current policy and taking out the new one all at once. Unless there's some rule I don't know about? Laughing

I ave noticed something similar wit my quotes. I ave just (Feb 6th0 turned 21 and my TPFT quotes for a certain SV650 in the local Suzuki dealers (2002, 33000 miles, £1850) have dropped from an average of £800 to more like £500 Shocked

For me only just got my licence and 0 years NCD this is a significant drop and it is seriously tempting just to cancel my insurance, sell the CG and get the SV. Financially that is a poor move at the moment for me, I will just be happy sticking it out on my 125 until my insurance runs out in September and bag my NCD and buy a nice bike with (hopefully) my greatly inflated savings balance from getting some full-time hours at my workplace (currently part-time) Thumbs Up

Technically yes, but in reality I wouldn't bother.

A friend recently went for a good 4 months with a taxed bike which was uninsured. It was off the road and he had just forgot about it otherwise he would have sent the disc back for a refund.

Well mines now cheaper all around for everything.

Bandit 1200 would cost the same to insure as what I'm currently paying for the 600.

Late 90's supersports are around £600, which is seriously tempting!

What's stopping me is the fact I've just splashed out £300 on tyres and fitting plus the fact I haven't really got the most out of the bandit yet as we haven't really had any decent weather.

Maybe I'll wait a year and treat myself for my 21st Wink

The length of time the bike will be uninsured is the length of time it takes to make the phone call to take out the new policy. It's currently insured, but I'm considering cancelling the current policy so I can save £200+ with a different policy due to me being a year older Smile

Sorry, what new insurance/SORN laws?

I ended up taxing the FireBlade for £136 for a whole year just last week, and declared it SORN, starting for the end of the month. I mean, that's OK isn't it, to be insured but SORN'd?

First time I ever bothered with this SORN malarky, with the bike insurance being so cheap, I just HAD to have it for that price - breaks down to a little over a tenna a month!

It's fine to have an insured bike SORN'd.

not ok to have a taxed bike which is uninsured.

btw, £136 for tax. You got ripped off. Laughing

D'oh! £136 for insurance lol. Man, I'm getting shafted Feb.

2nd feb = bike insurance - £136
1st March = bike tax - whatever it is for a >600cc nowadays. - needs new battery £60 hence sorn
1st March = Celica needs insurance - £750 Crying or Very sad

I wish my celica insurance was as cheap as the blade! They're more or less the same age and are valued at more or less the same - £2k, but the fact that I've only had my car license for 18 months doesn't help my cause. I'm on admiral's 10 month policy so I rack up 1 years NCB in 10 months.

Can't fit another 4 people for you to quadraspaz on the bike, and rolling over pedestrians in a 1300kg car tends to hurt more than doing same on a 200kg bike. That's where the cost is

Ahh, the benefits of being 'old'

600 Fazer - £170 TPFT, 1 year no claims (was £280 the year before that) had my license just under 18 months.

And by 'old' i mean 28.... For my father to insure the same bike... £65!
