I'm trying to sell the wife's ER5 at the moment, it was on eBay last week for £900 starting bid and £1200 buy it now but it didn't sell.

I stuck it on again, but this time starting bid £800 and Buy it now £1100 and it ended today but again hasn't sold.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190794304881?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1587.l2649

I know its the wrong time of year to be selling a bike but do people think I'm asking too much for it? If so what should it be going for?

Looking at other ER5s for sale on ebay, bike trader etc at the moment, most are around 1400/1500 but with 30/40k+ miles

I've only had one person come to view it (today) but he was seeing a bunch of other bikes today so I assume he picked something else.
A couple of people have emailed but one was in York and the other Devon, I can deliver the bike but (preferably) not quite that far.

I'd like £1000 for it, preferably a bit more but right now would be happy with 1k, its in good condition, nothing at all wrong with it, surely this isn't asking too much??

Should I wait until it gets a bit warmer when there may be more people looking for bikes?
That'll mean it takes up space in my garage which I don't really want it doing Sad

Cheers!
Rich

Buy it now at £1200 with make me an offer is your best option.

Never to auctions when selling cars or bikes

I had considered the "best offer" thing.

Its getting annoying as its costing £15 a pop to get it on eBay.
Gumtree want near enough the same but most of the stuff on there is dodgy, and Bike Trader want £50ish!

I guess a "classified" eBay listing for 28 days with a ONO would probably be the way to go.

Can anyone advise on the price? Does it seem fair?

I think you should stick at it, don't reduce the price anymore, put it on freeads / gumtree / bike-trader as well if you put it on bike-trader anything over a thousand pounds is charged so 995.00 it is, also on ebay take advantage of there free listings, they generally email you when they do this
It's a perfect commuter/ first bike / winter hack, with low mileage and in excellent condition, fingers crossed it sells soon Thumbs Up

Should get 1k for that.

I've sold all my bikes as Classified ads on ebay. One of the 'dodgey ones' I had no idea what it was worth I stuck up for a price with an offer function.

Basically used the offer function to see what people were willing to pay rather than accept.

Just make sure people send you a £50 deposit before you end the listing, that way if they bail, the £15 to list it is covered.

I have to agree that auction is a mug's route unless you're desperate to shift it at any price.

Good luck with your £901 "bidder".

Park it at the end of your drive with a "For sale, £1,100" sign on it.

Also, there's a variety of ways to advertise for free (check the link at the top of this forum).
Sure, they don't get anywhere near the visibility of ebay, but it doesn't matter so much when you're not paying!

Take the exhaust off it and stick the OEM back on. That is the only way of getting your £1000 or close to it. I was watching your first and second ad, would have bid if it didn't go above £850.

Thanks for the replies guys. Good to know I'm not going mad.

Instigator, why lose the exhaust? Why would you not go over £850?
Unfortunately I never picked up the original system from the previous owner, so I can't switch Sad

.
I am always suspicious of someones honesty when a bike is advertised as belonging to 'the wife'.!!! Shocked

I am not saying that yours did not.!

But it is amazing how many bikes are advertised as 'belonging to the wife' - It's a bit like a spivey 2nd hand car salesman in the 70's telling a prospective punter that the car had belonged to a little old lady that only used it to go to church in on a Sunday.! Rolling Eyes Some by default will have done. But not that many. Wink

Perhaps alter the description to :- "As will be confirmed by the V5 this bike is the property of my wife who has ridden it for the last ** months."

Your price I would say is in the ball park. I have just sold one with 22K on a 2001 in very good condition for £800

Obvious shill bidding is obvious, but I would pay 800 to 850 depending on condition.

Actually, the winning bidder bid on two bikes ending at the same time but won both, he went with the other bike apparently as it was closer to him.

Cheers!

That isn't how eBay works. You buy the item, you don't buy the option to buy the item. As far as eBay is concerned (and you should be concerned) he's bought your "wife"s bike for £901. Chase him up and get eBay on to him for non-payment if need be.

Also - if he still doesn't follow through, you can 2nd chance offer it to the runner up. Unless that's one of your own accounts too.

True, its not how eBay works but I like to be fair. He paid the 12 quid for the listing and we did the cancel transaction thing.
I also wasn't massively bothered as it was less than I was hoping for anyway Smile

So why not offer it to b***h for the £1.99 less than the winning bid that they offered?

Because (as above) it was less than I want for the bike...

So ask yourself why it isn't selling? What do the other ER5s on the market have that justify a £1500 price tag? Or are they not selling either, in which case it's pointless stacking yours up against theirs. "This guy has listed his ER5 for £1m 20 times - I want £1m for mine too".

Alternatively, people are assuming that because (by comparison) it's cheap it must be crap. Add £800 onto the price and some idiot might snap it up because "at that price it must be good".

I'd be wary about making a thing of the 'scratches'.

It pops up as one of the first lines - as it's got a few years on it, I'd just mention "condition consistent with age - generally good, but a few minor scratches" or something somewhere in the main text.
