I previously posted on here about my brake being spongy and gunk coming from behind the lever.

I was advised to buy a master cylinder repair kit which I have done to repair mine

anyway I took it apart today and after a bit of WD40 the old piston came out, yay!

now I've just looked at the new part which is identical to the photo in haynes.......but nothing like which came out! see pictures.

The one which came out was help in with a washer spring and clip and the one I have to put in is over double the size!!!

advise please i dont wanna be mugged by a garage when this does seem a simpple repair Sad

Photos are really poor which doesn't help, but it looks as though you haven't got the piston out of your master cylinder yet!

looks like the actuating rod to me, the piston is stuck inside the cylinder, a little "percussive maintenance" may help, or compressed air if you have access

+1

don`t throw any of those bits out, i suspect that the long black bit will need reusing.

Probably had the wrong master cylinder fitted at some time, the one on the right looks too big a bore for a single caliper set up, you want 12 13 or 14 mm bore size at most, that one looks 17mm?
would explain your crap brake too

as i posted before is this not the same part that came out? https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/honda/cb_500_v/97-98/picture/rebuild_kit_brake_mastercylinder_-_front/ which would explain why this 96 part wont fit my 97 bike >_<
