Shame, since 2011/2012 was actually a strong year, things were looking up. Come onnnn good summer.

Yeah, not really a surprise, Roger.

It will level off again, probably below 2011 levels for awhile mind.

Eh, it might level out again after the dust settles, but there's a big hump to get over.

Overnight, training schools will have lost almost all of the 17 and 18 year olds, and a fair number of the 21-23 year olds. That's at least 2 years, more like 4, before they can get back to a steady state.

doesn't help when they book the bike examiners onto car tests.

I wanted to book my mod 2 last week and there were no slots at my local test center. only when the instructor rang up the center and spoke to someone did they say oh yes the bike examiner is allocated to car tests but the slots are free and managed to get me booked in. On the online system the only option would have been another test center 30 miles away.

Have your pass certificate laminated and then lock it in a bank vault. Wink

A2 on Jan 18th? how so if it didn't come in until the 19th or do you mean the 25KW restriction?

Confusingly, on January 18th, "A2" referred to a 121-125cc bike capable of at least 100kph. No "A2" license class existed. On January 19th, "A2" referred to a 395cc+ bike making between 25-35kW, and also to a license class to ride a bike up to 35kW.

I really wonder about this.

Keeping in mind that we're not just talking about a drop (temporary or not) in business.

It's combined with a new vehicle fleet - more variety plus machines that had no use under the old regime.

I can't help but think that will be a deadly combo for many outfits. Have we seen anyone close down citing 3DLD? I'd think twice about buying a load of new vehicles with a decent chance of having to shut up shop on the horizon.

Dunno, the local outfits are all still going. Daytona Paul et al would have a handle on it.

Only one point of data, but the school I took my DAS course at in April was bloody busy.

As you've said, they've had to go out and buy a couple of 600's to do A licenses. Flipside to that, though, is that unlike the old rules, you can't just rock up and do your test on a 125 (unless you want a crappy 125-only license) - under the old rules, I might have been tempted to save money on a DAS course, just try on my 125, and if I failed, eh, try again, still cheaper than DAS. Sure, there's a 2 year restriction, but ... Under the new rules, you practically have to go through a school, even to get a restricted A2 license. I wonder if they'll be picking up business from that?

Yep the days of doing it all yourself are over. I feel bad for the kids that are poor but want to ride something other than a 125 once they turn 19/20.
