Recently I added some golden syrup one night when I got home from work and wow, it was the best drink I have ever tasted! Not sure how much I put in but we will get to that...

Next morning I went to do it again, guessed how much to put in, went to drink it and spat it out! Tasted horrible.

I NEED to know how much to put in! Anyone done this before? What's the correct amount?

Also, for discussion, what have you added to your home made coffee's etc?

Erm, make 5 cups and taste them all, then decide? Huge waste of 30p worth of coffee and sugar I suppose.

I have coffee with coffee. If I wanted to drink sugar water I'd drink Coke.

Just milk. Nowt else. First drink of the day is always tea, then coffee for the rest of the morning, maybe two or three mugs, then water all afternoon.

Obviously, all this is dependent on whether I'm at work or not, if I'm out on the pushbike for a morning ride, it's electrolyte drinks. If I'm out on the Hornet and we stop anywhere, it's back to tea again, any time of the day.

I suppose that comes down to ritual and necessity. No sugar in tea or coffee. If anyone else makes one and sugars it by mistake, it's like being poisoned...

Just milk and a bit of sugar. Just 1 or 2 cups a day. Never have more.

But I don't like that chicory blended stuff. It is still around and bitter. It started during apartheid when sanctions made real coffee very expensive so it was blended. There are a few coffee plantations here but nowhere near enough.

Petrol rationing and regular army call ups may be gone, but the chicory shit is here to stay. We have it at work to curb the coffew addicts. It works. I rarely drink coffee during the day Mr. Green

If you like richer flavours, try using dark treacle or honey instead.

That said,

When I first started drinking coffee, I used the lab's uber accurate balance to decide what concentration of coffee I liked for each brand of instant coffee in the coffee room. Then cut down universals (a plastic tube) to carry the correct quantity when levelled and wrote on the side which brand it is for.

Next up sugar, same again. Ideally you'd want a grid so each coffee g/ml could be sampled with each sugar g/ml combination. I.e. 5 coffee combinations and 5 sugar combinations = 5^2 = 25 cups.

If you drink it with milk, same again, only this time it is 5^3 = 125 cups. If you replace the sugar with golden syrup/honey/treacle and wish to test each of them, this would be a mere 500 cups to coffee perfection... until you change brand.

As I am not a geek, I don't often have milk in my coffee, so I stopped at 75 cups (3 brands x 25 cups). I did however buy a cafetiere for home use, which has added many variables and wasted a number of weekends. I've also been banned from using the gas chromatography machine for non work related activities.

Holy crap. Shocked

Coffee is poison, sugar is BAD POISON. Drink lots now and ensure a messed up body when you hit middle age. Go on, you know it makes sense.

This has been a compassionate health warning.

Yes, because of course smoking hash, drinking cheap cider and taking mind-altering chemicals (such as DMT) are positively good for the body.

Well, yes, obviously. But we all know the risks associated with those and can easily make an informed choice. Many people, probably most, assume coffee and sugar are perfectly safe, due to being legal and on supermarket shelves. Do the research however and be prepared to discover how truly lethal this shit is if used a lot daily over a number of years.
I'm proud to say I've cured the ailments of a few friends over recent years simply by pointing this info out and recommending they massively reduce their intake of coffee (the most usual case) and/or sugar.

Which reminds me...it's FRIDAY, I ain't got SHIT TO DO...so I'll be checking out teh GOOD cider (Westons). Weekend, woo-hoo!

Usually just add water. On an evening off work, a splash of Baileys, Tia Maria or brandy is nice.
