ive started to price up car insurance and its about 4 or 5 grand its shocking

compared to when I just turned 16 and got a derbi gpr 50 10 plate insured for under 300 quid

im just asking if anyone knows any good websites to compare or any decent cars that are in a low insurance group

thanks ever so much

Tip. Stick your mum, dad, girlfriend, dog, etc. on as named drivers.

Use your bike NCB, if you have any. Not all insurers will take them though.

Take a look here:

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/

Some people have managed to get their insurance for silly money.

Also, look at cars that aren't earmarked as 'boy racer' cars. Sometimes the choice of car can have as much basis as your personal circumstances.

Not many youth will go for this, but if it floats your boat it's a great way to build up your NCB.

Buy a scabby old Morris Minor, insure through vintage specialists, very cheap for both and you get to go retro.

If you do this, make sure it's not listed as 'classic' insurance; that doesn't accrue any no claims bonus.

To be honest, the actual answer is just don't get a car unless you need one for business/work.

For young people spending 10 quid per day on taxis with the odd bus/train here or there is cheaper, and less hassle.

The classic car route is difficult for many reasons. There are loads of clauses like 'must be over x age' or 'not used as primary car'. Also, you then have a classic car. Hope you're a mechanic and not driving more than 10k miles a year.

I mucked about trying to find cheap insurance for ages. Now I'm 22 I can get a policy for 800 quid.

Save your pennies and get a boss car when you're a bit older, it's not that far away.

Or think about how much fuel you could buy for the GPR for 2,3,4 grand. I doubt you could even spend that much on fuel in a year, you'd run out of places to go.

Also how many seats do you need? reason I ask is if you only need 2 seats try a van quote, when I changed my old Astra estate for an Astra van of the same year and engine size it came down quite a lot, worth a shot if you don't need 5 seats, I found go compare always do me proud on quotes.

can be quite difficult to find private insurance on vans though and commercial prices are always a rip-off.

plus they don't count towards your car ncb.

i was lucky with mine.. was getting silly quotes for buying a van even though i've been driving for like 15+ years then happened to ask my insurers (modified car policy) and they said as long as i stick a mod on it, alloys or something, they'll insurer it as a modified vehicle and mirror my ncb.. quote dropped over £500 Very Happy was silly, the original quotes were almost double what im paying on a modified performance car.

I never knew that, is a bit shit as not all vans are used for business. I swapped mine because at the time I was single and didn't have kids to drive around, my mate needed a car as his girlfriend was expecting so we swapped vehicles, came in handy as it was easier to clean my German shepards hair out of a van, the only question my insurers asked was "is there a reason you have a van for private use and not a car", I explained about the swap and the reason and it came down by about £300, don't know if my mates went up or not though.

Have a look at 'family cars' (only way i can describe them) For me (im 20 btw) it's less than half the price to get insured on a 1.9tdi golf than a 1.1 petrol 106

Oh, and fully comp is often cheaper than 3rd party.

I would guess this is down to the type of people who go for fully comp or third party

Buy it a month in advance of needing it, eg buy it in december for jan on comp site. usually knocks off a bit.

Go and have a read up on Google about car insurance fronting and that should explain why it's not a good idea.

This, I'm paying way less to insure an Audi A6 2.5Tdi V6 than I was paying to insure a 1.2 Corsa shitbox.
