 |
|
I made fish and chips, and onion rings, at home. Pommie food.
The batter came out very crispy and tasty, but didnt stick totally. still tasted nice though. all that grease is very filling
Not quite like making schnitzel. So what did I miss?
For the batter I used 1 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder, some bicarb and salt, 1 tsp curry powder, 1 cup water and one egg. let stand a bit, dip fish in and fry at 150 C.
https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/IMG-20130308-00822_zps9b48ddc0.jpg
dipped the onion rings in the same batter.
I diluted the Brit grease assault with a salad
At least both kids have hockey tomorrow (the real one, not the one with knives under your feet), to work it off. I just must bike back and forth between 2 the 2 events.
Tomorrow we are going to a braai so back to a piece of red meat over coals, with all the fat drained out of it. ____________________ 2011 KTM 990 Dakar

Gotta flour the fish before dipping it in beer batter. Done properly it shouldn't be greasy or drippy at all. Oh, and you need bread and butter to go with a fish dinner like that ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10

The salad looks nice.
(believe me, this is a RARE thing for me to admit to )
Although, what fat did you use to fry that stuff?
It does look *very* greasy.
Hint: no self-respecting Pom puts curry in the batter

Lettuce and tamaties come from my garden
Self respecting poms don't put in curry powder but claim chicken tikka masala is british
British food is made my indians and italians and bubbles? What is a bubble? Kicking myself for not knowing a racial term
Fried in SA sunflower oil. It was crispy not soggy and greasy ____________________ 2011 KTM 990 Dakar

bubbles?.....anyway Krad you 've done well, except for not flouring before battering, drop the curry ,man up on PROCESSED peas,
it must be hard in SA,not being able to find the right authentic english asians to cook it,like the Malaysian ones from china,or Kashmiri ones who hate pakistanis and racist hindu's.
have the oil hot, season batter with salt/pepper/hint of fennel, sqeeze lemon over spiced batter.
the chips should be wacked in the oil at hot hot temp, shake them in basket a few times half way through.
salt, vingar, mush peas, black peas(from west yorkshire?,too tight to pay for food dye?) pickled eggs.brown sauce and mayonaisse.
if you fancy trying some more brit cooking you could try, haggis n chips, with bottle of buckies and deep fried batterd mars bar,
or
deep fried piglet and leeks, stolen english piglet cooked with a stick shoved up its arse (english/welsh border recipie) served with Feelinfoul beer and sherbet ufo's for sweet. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs. It comes originally from Cockney* rhyming slang and has very little insulting racial overtone, so no point you trying to use it, Kradhouse, hahaha
*I've been here FAR too long, LOL, I shouldn't even know Cockney rhyming slang, let alone use it in everyday language.
Although it took me literally YEARS to realise that when (in the film Snatch), Bricktop says "I'll cut your fucking Jacobs off" that he meant Jacobs Crackers/knackers ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Curse you, Kradders!
I was going to go for the "broccoli with crispy bacon and crumbled Stilton" option for dinner.
(that is : if I can hack the slime off the Stilton and get away with not poisoning myself ...)
... but now I *really* fancy some onion rings ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |
