Ok thanks bottom line is I was not prepared to be made redundant I have too many monthly out goings and just not getting enough work. JSA is peanuts I can barely scrape by one month to next.
My life is on complete hold because I have no money to do anything about it extremely frustrating.
I will give them a call and see how they can help me if they don't play ball I will simply walk away from the debt and open an account elsewhere. See what they think about that. ____________________ When I ride, I feel as if I transcend consciousness and enter a different dimension full of instinct. |

Sorry, I'm struggling to find it. If you Google "HSBC informal overdrafts" there are a lot of forums discussing it, including Moneysavingexpert and Consumer Action Group. HSBC seems to be singled out as one of the worst banks for this kind of behaviour.
Speak to HSBC, but if you don't get any joy with them, it's worth speaking to Citizens' Advice.
Hope that helps a little, good luck getting it sorted out. |

Walking away (for now) looks to be my only option I phoned them ching chang wong lady put me through to the financial department.
I was talking to a snotty nosed patronising middle class stuck up bitch I explained my situation her reply was that I have a £100 pending chrage going out on the 25th.
Asked if it could be waived she said no.
Then I told her I will just simply not be able to afford to pay so we did an assessment twenty minute waste of time. Told her all my monthly out goings etc and I am starting a job next week but do not know how long it will last.
I have to send a letter (I do not have) confirming I will have a £6.19 an hour income before I am eligible for a payment plan. I told her again it is an agency and this isn't going to happen she turned around and said well we can not help you then sir.
I hung up.
Will I be able to open an account at Barclays with being in debt at HSBC? Also how long does it usually take? I sign on Thursday so will need to update my payment info.
I will be able to afford to pay HSBC back with a few weeks of work I do not want to be black listed and not be able to get a mobile contact etc.
My only other option to get cash fast is sell my phone (GS2) and buy a shite one due for an upgrade in July anyway. ____________________ When I ride, I feel as if I transcend consciousness and enter a different dimension full of instinct. |

Only one way to find out! I suspect that a credit union/building society (if you can find such a thing!) might be more amenable if one of the big banks won't help you out.
Try one of these, on the basis that they'll take undischarged bankrupts, but if you're only a couple of hundred in hock to HSBC you'll probably be all right.
A single default won't balls it all up for you in the short term (I managed to re-clear my security clearance and get a mortgage whilst having a couple, you should be ok to carry on your phone contract, or even get a new one), and once you default the interest is frozen - if they punt it to a debt collector you can basically set your own terms, and I suspect that might be the easiest option.
If HSBC are not going to be reasonable, then breach your contract and let them do the running - you can do without them eating all your income when you can least afford it. They'll get their money back, but it should be on equitable terms, not a death by a thousand penalty charges. ____________________ '11 CBF1000A, '99 C90, '98 CB500

Thanks I have applied for a Barclays account online they are going to send a letter within a few days requesting a signature if successful followed by a card in 3 - 5 days.
I have been with HSBC since 2004 my account has always been in a positive balance even in my school years until I was made redundant and it messed everything up.
I am not blaming anyone I know it is my own fault. I have no problem with paying them back even the disgusting charges I just need a job that is going to last longer than spring/summer to do so which is just a pipe dream. ____________________ When I ride, I feel as if I transcend consciousness and enter a different dimension full of instinct. |

Mobile phone is a bloody luxury IMHO and it smokes my kipper when I think I am one of the working ones paying for bleedin' luxuries!
Values are all screwed in my opinion. why should the state stop your debts rising? If the OD continues to rise, tough. Deal with it when you get into work.
How are you accessing the web? Unless it is through a terminal at the library or job centre sell it to pay your debts IT IS ALSO A LUXURY!!! ____________________ 22PlusY

I had a similar experience with HSBC some years ago. Natwest is also crap for the same reasons. In the end I just paid off the debts (student ODs) and don't use the bank accounts anymore. Barclays are by far the best and now they get all the benefits of being my sole bank, with several accounts with them.
Don't listen to the haters and the BS posts in this thread mate, mostly just trying to get a rise out of you or blow off some steam from a shit day at work or some ill harboured hatred of god knows what. My advice would be to open up an account with Barclays tomorrow with an agreed OD of £250 (assuming they'll grant you that) and pay off your HSBC debt with that. You'll pay interest on the Barc OD but at least you won't incur anymore bullshit charges and it'll give you time to pay back the debt. I wouldn't walk away from the debt it may come back to bite you in the ass.
Also, have you tried going into the bank to speak with them in person? For cheap calls get the uk landline number from the 'say no to 0870' website |

The reason I call it 'not a mind shattering sum' is that if you actually have any real friends at all, they would help you out with that. I would do it for my friends. As long as I actually trusted them. Have you asked anyone in the past? If not, once won't harm.
I mean, you could even offer to make it worth their while, 140 quid now, you pay back 150 next month. Job done, everyone wins. |
I do not have any friends what would loan me £140 my girlfriend would but I am not going to ask as it is my birthday on the 24th and she is already buying something expensive.
Even if I managed to get £140 I'd still be getting a £100 robbed from me on the 25th.

Cheers, I will try getting an OD with Barclays to pay off HSBC I never thought of this unsure whether I will get one though I tried with HSBC you need a minimum of £500.
I have no intentions of burring my head in the sand and forgetting about it I know things will only escalate.
I have found the say no to 08 on the play store. ____________________ When I ride, I feel as if I transcend consciousness and enter a different dimension full of instinct. |
