Evening

All last week ive been on the lookout for a small boat and finally found a nice little 8ft fibreglass tender i can stick on the roofrack.

So today ive gone and collected it over an hours drive round the M25. When i got there it looked smaller than i imagined but the guy was nice and we were happy chatting so didnt give it much thought till i got it home... and measured it. Just over 6ft.
An 8ft boat might be tight for 2 adults and electric motor + battery but i really dunno if i want 2 adults with fishing gear in such a small boat as its really 6ft.

So i send the guy a text... no answer. Just phoned ebay but because i went and paid in cash theres nothing they can do. The guy doesnt have a car and im not taking it back for another half tank of petrol.

Suppose i shouldve asked whilst there. Even better still, wouldve been better if he listed it as a 6ft boat instead of 8ft. So now im stuck with a small boat probably ok for me to use but sorta defeats the object if i wanna go out with mates.

so whats my options.... stick it back on ebay and hope someone buys it off me, or keep it, at least give it a try and at least use it to map the local river and get used to boating. fishing is in close season now anyway so have a bit of time to sell and find another but its hassle i dont really need to sell and find again. bastard.

It didnt magically shrink 2ft on the way home. Why did you buy it if it was to small?

does it have an engine on it?

if you're looking at flat slow moving water, you don't need a huge engine, a little pole motor (the kind sailing dinghies sometimes have as a back up) should do it.

Use it, see how it goes, map out the river, see if it's what you want.

Gives you a good idea if an 8ft is definitely what you want or if you'd want something even bigger. You might be surprised to find that what you've just bought is actually fine.

agreed. i was buying a few bits off him (fishing stuff) so wasnt paying 100% attention to the boat. as i said, it did look smaller than i imagined but thought maybe was just me and chatting distracted me a bit.

not saying its all his fault as maybe i shouldve said something, but either way, i wouldntve bought it at all if i knew it was 6ft.
