Hi,

Went out to my bike today (2000 Thundercat) and it doesn't start. Just a buzzer noise when i hit the start button, this happened when i accidentally left the light on and the battery ran dead. Had to get a breakdown guy to come start it.

Can you use jump leads and attach the battery to a car like u would if trying to start a car?

Cheers
Mat

I would assume it ok as long as the voltages are the same.

Saying that I used to have to keep bump starting my old Ducati when it was cold. That seemed to work OK. Just wether you are fit enough to run down the road for a good few yards with the bike Surprised

Hi

You are fine using jump leads on from a car to a bike. Done it many times, as have loads of other people on here.

Here is the recent thread about it:-

All the best

As he didn't mention that he'd tried to bump it, I thought I'd put up a post to explain it... Basically, get the bike into second gear, pull the clutch in and start pushing. Once you're going at a reasonable pace (maybe 8-10 mph), slowly let the clutch out and keep pushing until the wheels turn the engine over enough that it catches. As soon as it starts, pull the clutch in, hop on and ride away. Piece of cake on a 125 thumper anyway. Very Happy

I've started my old bikes from a car at times, I haven't done it continuously though, but I have been bump starting my R6 for the past 6 weeks. Good way to improve fitness at least!

Just put the choke on, stick it in 2nd gear, run along side the bike and let clutch out till it starts then clutch in and rev, voila

I have new battery sat next to me so no more worries now Dance!

Or come to Bath uni and point yourself down the very big hill, get up to about 30mph freewheeling, then let the clutch out and try not to stack it.

Bear in mind that the big hill option is a one way journey, so get it right. Very Happy
