So recently I have been claiming through insurance for my bike which was damaged in an accident, and today I received a call saying my bike was a total loss.
The bike, which was a Kymco Pulsar 125, was bought for £1250 and the insurance are offering me £1080 or £955 if I want the bike back, which while they will not repair, is now a class C meaning I could still ride it if repaired (after numerous checks).
I'm at a bit of a cross roads now. I need my bike for work, and the courtesy bike will only be with me for so long. I think the pay out is quite good, and I could easily pick up a decent replacement. The question is whether I should.
I am still on L-plates, and I feel like I have two options. A; just get a new bike. B; get my full (or whatever I'm allowed) license and somehow find a good investment for whatever money I have left.
It's my birthday tomorrow, so maybe I could afford my test. Perhaps pick up a cheap 125, and leave enough money in case I do not pass first time. However, do I take back my old bike for less and hope I can get it sold for spares? So many questions, so little time it seems. I would really appreciate opinions on this as I want to make the most of what I am being offered here. |

Have it back for that price, stick on gumtree for £250?
Or learn mechanics on it... ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

You don't accept the first offer that's the first thing to get out of the way.
Who was the 'At Fault'? Stick it to their insurers that you have no means to get to work and you want compensation for hassle. They will charge for hassle why not you?
How old was the bike? I think most insurance pays out full RPI within the first year.
I totalled a bike that was 15mths old. I paid 5600 for it the insurer paid out 5300. Which I snapped up. They only offered 4900 at first.
Salvage would be an intersting option but still haggle. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |
