if it hasn't gone to start with I don't think you can simply add one
because it's not designed to have one.

I have a Honda CD250U which doesn't have one but I can fit one
because I can get a CB250 clutch case which has the hole for the
cable. (mainly because both bikes have the same engine)

Ask your dealer if one can be fitted, I don't think it's possible.

'Doesnt come as standard' as in, it has the mechanics to potentially have one but yours is just a model without one?

If so then stealing one of the model the does have one is all you need to do.

Otherwise if your bike never had one, and was never suposed to have one then i would say fitting one isnt possible sorry.

You probably can get one that will need to be wired into the ignition system.

However, I doubt it's worth it, especially on that bike, you should get used to how the engine feels quickly enough.

If it can be done it would be horribly expensive and difficult, unless a version of your bike was made with rev counter its going to be pritty pointless, and even if they did make one with one then its going to be an engine out job!

The thing is, rev counters are usually driven from the camshaft or something similar inside the engine, which means allot of hassle!

Best bet is to get a noiseyer helmet and listen to the revs!

Wotcha.

They make electronic rev counters that pick up the ignition pulses - they even do re-chargeable ones for magneto equiped race bikes . . . the bad news is, they are bloody expensive.

Now how badly do you want one ? Wink

You should be able to get one that just has a sensor that clips onto the HT lead to pick up the pulses, and you could wire it into something in the headlamp shell for power.

I'm pretty sure dynos use an HT lead clip to work out the revs, so it should work.

That said, its only a 125. It should be doing redline+1000 rpm at all time, and sod the engine life. You'll be selling it before its knackered.

Here is the electronic one. Its the 4th one down, costs £38. It just measures the pulses from the ignition or maybe even the rotary arm if you have one.

I'd only break it again though, it only goes up to 8000rpm! Very Happy

The GZ engine is exactly the same as the GS engine (which does have a counter) except for the cam/rocker cover. The gear drive is still there under the cover its just not used. Problem is GS engines tend to be black and the GZ engine is polished. Dont know if its worth it really. Red line on the GS was 50 in 4th thats the only one i can remember, may be different on the GZ though cos of wheel size/gear ratios etc.

Hi

Found an Elliot one for £126.61 in a Demon Tweekes catalogue, or about double that for the very nice Stack ones.

The M&P catalogue shows one for about £30, but only mentions the version to pick up the revs electronically in passing.

All the best

Keith
