|
Just got back from a nice coastal ride to Dungeness, my first longish ride, was very enjoyable opening the throttle on some nice flat straights, good test for the old Honda, she held up well I learnt a few things about riding with body weight and using the hips/thighs to turn the bike. Also getting a bit of confidence, coming down hills for example, untill today I have been very cautious coming down hill, only allowing the bike 15/20 mph on the brakes, I have now mastered using the engine to slow my speed, not touching the brakes untill necessary, keeping a good constant 30mph.
All in all a good ride
The old Honda is a bit of a bone shaker, got a bloody jaw ache from clenching my teeth, but all good fun : ____________________ 1980 Honda H100A, Cafe racer. (SOLD)

I'm pretty sure on an old 2-stroke you shouldnt be using engine braking if you can help it.
With the throttle closed, the engine isnt getting much fuel, but on a 2-stroke, that also means it isn't getting much oil. Use your brakes instead.

Was out on my 2T 100 today. Though I was a bit less cautious as I've had her 23 years Though she's just back on the road after a bit of emergency surgery. ____________________ The RXS100: vehicle of choice for Chuck Norris |

Just realised I sound like a proper miserable sod.
Glad you're enjoying biking.

Zen Dog is correct in that you should avoid coasting downhill on a 2-stroke on a closed throttle unless it's the type that injects the oil directly into the bearings (which an H100 doesn't).
If you're going downhill with a closed throttle, you would normally blip the throttle every few seconds to keep a sufficiency of oil going through. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Thankyou Stinkwheel, I tend to blip the throttle, while coasting or at a standstill i.e at a junction or at a red light etc.. So hopefully I will be getting enough oil running through the engine ____________________ 1980 Honda H100A, Cafe racer. (SOLD)

You will several times probably, but you can skip the fluff next time. Make a little list of stuff you need to remember, smooooooth throttle control, dont chop, gradual roll on through corners, body position, clamp with your legs, dont worry about leaning off for a long while, countersteering, loose on the bars. Get that stuff so it feels natural then progress. To be honest, I still practice, it's not in my muscle memory. ____________________ Honda Varadero >> Triumph Speed Four >> Honda CBR1100xx |
