Just got back from a nice coastal ride to Dungeness, my first longish ride, was very enjoyable opening the throttle on some nice flat straights, good test for the old Honda, she held up well Very Happy I learnt a few things about riding with body weight and using the hips/thighs to turn the bike. Also getting a bit of confidence, coming down hills for example, untill today I have been very cautious coming down hill, only allowing the bike 15/20 mph on the brakes, I have now mastered using the engine to slow my speed, not touching the brakes untill necessary, keeping a good constant 30mph.
All in all a good ride Thumbs Up

The old Honda is a bit of a bone shaker, got a bloody jaw ache from clenching my teeth, but all good fun :Twisted Evil

I'm pretty sure on an old 2-stroke you shouldnt be using engine braking if you can help it.

With the throttle closed, the engine isnt getting much fuel, but on a 2-stroke, that also means it isn't getting much oil. Use your brakes instead.

Was out on my 2T 100 today. Though I was a bit less cautious as I've had her 23 years Laughing Though she's just back on the road after a bit of emergency surgery.

I've only been riding for 2 weeks, the cautious riding is slowly fading each day, cornering is getting less sketchy and I'm enjoying it as well as it being my daily commute to work.
Today was just for fun, riding a 30+ year old 2t 99cc at 50 mph with more to give (50 has been the fastest I've dared so far) just makes you smile Very Happy

Just realised I sound like a proper miserable sod.

Glad you're enjoying biking. Very Happy

I wouldn't say so Mr Dog, you offered some sound advice, I didn't comment back as I have no idea on the matter, so I took your word and will keep it in mind while riding Thumbs Up

Under confidence just as likely to cause a fall as over confidence. relax a bit and open her up. Focus on the road around you and less on the speedo. No need to be on the brakes above a certain speed. Just rather go into the corners a bit slower so you can accelerate out.

enjoy the ride and do the speed limit. Going too slow is also a risk because cages will come up quickly behind you.

Zen Dog is correct in that you should avoid coasting downhill on a 2-stroke on a closed throttle unless it's the type that injects the oil directly into the bearings (which an H100 doesn't).

If you're going downhill with a closed throttle, you would normally blip the throttle every few seconds to keep a sufficiency of oil going through.

Thankyou Stinkwheel, I tend to blip the throttle, while coasting or at a standstill i.e at a junction or at a red light etc.. So hopefully I will be getting enough oil running through the engine Thumbs Up

You will several times probably, but you can skip the fluff next time. Make a little list of stuff you need to remember, smooooooth throttle control, dont chop, gradual roll on through corners, body position, clamp with your legs, dont worry about leaning off for a long while, countersteering, loose on the bars. Get that stuff so it feels natural then progress. To be honest, I still practice, it's not in my muscle memory.
