Their escalation strategy is to next destroy the moon, thereby eliminating tidal variations and bringing misery to untold thousands of people who moor boats inland and/or enjoy fishing.

WHERE WILL IT END?

Meanwhile, America is getting it's pew pew pew on.

https://www.guardian.co.uk/science/video/2013/apr/09/us-navy-laser-cannon-drone-video

So on the off chance North Korea develops long range ballistic nuclear warheads that can hit America, pretty soon they'll also need to find some way to make them impervious to laser interception.

Both Communist countries. Both been subjected to severe trade sanctions for extended periods by the U.S. More chance of them becoming allies IMO despite what the Chinese have been saying.

China and North Korea also have a mutual defense treaty (Sino-North Korean Mutual Aid and Cooperation Friendship Treaty) which was renewed in 2001 for 20 years, which means china are bound by treaty to support north Korea. Though treaty's like this between other states have been waved or not fully implemented in the past such as the current oldest active treaty in the world the Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of 1373 which was not fully implemented during the second world war for example, So even if it did kick off china could give limited or refuse military aid to North Korea as they do have a lot to loose if they did get involved as its not the 1950's anymore.

Although heaven knows why the Yanks have chosen to name the ship it's installed on the USS Ponce.

China subjected to severe US trade sanctions? Would this be the one where they send vast amounts of cheap plastic and electronic toy crap to oh so covertly invade and fill Walmart and others shelves, then with the resultant dollar value buy over 1 Trillion in US treasury bonds, US ports, US land, etc etc. They really should have got Cuba, Iran and Iraq in on these kind of severe sanctions IYAM.

Pre WTO there were pretty big barriers to Chinese business.

Also the US government last month stopped any Chinese made goods being bought by government agencies due to 'security concerns'

Their nuclear technology is not even as good as the USA in the 1940's. They need a lot of space to detonate a nuclear device, and it certainly won't fit on top of their piddling little rockets.

If they do 'go nuclear' then China will rescind their mutual defence pact and invade from the north. The US and South Korea will invade from the south. The commanders of the two expeditionary forces will shake hands in Pyonyang when they realise they can overcome the North Korean army by giving them food.

North Korea will end up owned by china and the US will be happy about it.
