At the time a lot of what she did appeared to make sense and it did give the UK the kick up the backside it needed.
What seems to be forgotten is that those who came after her, both Tory and Labour, moved the stuff she did to the next level and gold plated them; for which they don't appear to be getting the blame. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

It's a pity she could have foreseen the future and finished off Bob Crow before he turned into a wannabe Scargill.
He's one of the few relics insanely allowed to remain...
The whole issue with selling off public owned services is not that it should have never happened, It's that they should have been more closely watched.
Take a look at the railways. British Rail was shit. The trains were antiques, the whole infrastructure falling apart...
Privatisation could, and should have worked, but it allowed shit managers and shit companies in to make a quick buck on the back of Government subsidies.
We pay an over-inflated fare AND we pay through our taxes. Apart from poorly written contracts, there's no comeback. They are literally laughing all the way to the bank.
Now we're seeing exactly the same thing with the gas companies...
"Ohhh we've got to put prices up because the infrastructure needs updating..." Oh so the millions in PROFIT you've been making was just spunked on branding and company cars?!
People say Thatcher was a bitch, but I bet she wouldn't let them get away with it. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Having seen the other anti Thatcher posts and then the results of this poll I think you can see Thatcher's problem... Those who hated her did so loudly, those who didn't were a silent majority. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

He is a fan. |
That worked for some people. Sadly the money made from the buying of the council house your dad bought never went towards replacing that council house that was now off the council housing stock.
That meant when it came to you needing to move out you found the council house you applied for was never built. This is the situation that faced millions of people. The next generation found themselves with 3 real choices. Stay with their parents, buy a house or rent privately. Each had drawbacks. Staying with parents, as we know, everyone wants their independence. Buying private, Not a chance, very few 18 year olds can afford, or could at the time, to buy a new house. This was before national min wage etc. Wages were shite. Renting privately. Still unavoidable today for a lot of people.
So they go to the local council to find out they have no houses available and they get put onto a waiting list. If you are a single guy or a couple with no kids you've got next to no chance of ever getting a place. If you have kids, or the other half is pregnant you have a better chance and even that becomes a minefield. If you intentionally make yourself homeless, eg walk out of mum and dads then you are not entitled to a house. If your family kick you out then you are entitled. It gets really complicated with a scoring system to see how bad your situation to find out where you stand on their list and its a fucking long list and you never get told where you are on it. Even the list changes with needs of others. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

Actually Pinky, you're prolly right about the housing, it was a bit of a cock up. But, does it deserve the kind of vitriol that's being spewed?
And, I'll just toss his in... Why should there be any social housing? It's a relatively modern idea, there isn't any tradition going back to the middle earth ages giving people the right to cheap housing. ____________________ Honda Goldwing GL 1000 Current love
