Went to pick up my bike today, had been at a friends place since my accident. Before I got there I was all gee'd up and ready to go.

It was the most disappointing ride I've ever had.

I don't know if it's because the bike was in a worse condition than I expected - seems to have gathered a lot of rust - is there anything that could clean that up? Front left indicator doesn't work (back left does - bulb?) Control was fine, nothing to do with that..

whole ride just seemed a bit.. "meh"

Sad

About the rust, I used a product called Ajax powder and it got rid of rust for me, only a small amount of rust, but the least it can do is make your bike look a bit better.

Just get a cloth, wet it with cold water, put a small amount on the cloth and have a go at the rust, should come off no problem providing it's only a thin layer of rust and it hasn't ate right into the metal.

Best of luck man, we all are shitting ourselves after an accident, just keep in mind that you'll be able to learn from what caused it and try to prevent it in the future. Thumbs Up

Meh is good for a first ride after an accident. To get rid of superficial rust rub it with moistened aluminium foil, it really works.

More of a challenge than the foot job I gave the other week, but I'll certainly give it a try.

Didn't believe the foil bit at all - can't believe how well it works!

Seriously, just wet tin foil? Have to use that one in future.

Just wet tin foil (shiny side to the bike) - Really should have don't a before / after picture, but I wasn't that hopeful. There are bits that still need doing so I'll try and remember pictures for those.

i found my first ride after an accident was always pretty twitchy... having to get used to how the bike behaves, not quite having the same level of trust in the tyres i did before i binned it... generally riding like a noob.. you get past it..

what bothers me after the offs I had was that the bike just went down when I was on a straight road . On one was just accelerating to overtake and the other was slowing about 20 yards before the bend. Now I find I dont ride like i used to specially if the road is damp . I hate that sound of plastic fairing skittering off up the street.

Is it now back at your place? What bike is it? I tried looking for your accident thread but couldn’t see it.
Spend some time going over the bike tidying it up, you'll be surprised how much you'll confidence will grow with it before heading out again. If you aren’t cool with the bike though, I’d chop it in for something else. The buzz of new bike feeling should override those gremlins.

I haven't had a major accident. I think a lot of it will be down to building it up in your head and apprehension from not wanting to damage yourself further.

You'll get more comfortable and it'll give you that great feeling again!

It's only a CBF125...

Here's the initial post and the followup in the 2012 spills thread.

Yeah, it's having a good effect, I've cleaned off rust, changed a broken bulb, cleaned the chain put some oil in, checked the tyres and ordered some replacement bits.. starting to feel a little better. Certainly a little more cautious now though.

There's not much pain at all now, the odd twinge. Muscle in that leg is pretty weak - this morning I got cramp in it, but the muscle is so bad that I barely noticed, just felt it tightening a bit. Nothing like a proper cramp at all.

Have to start walking about on tip-toes to try and strengthen it, then there's running on the spot to try and get the bone density up.

Good news is that I can get on and off the bike ok, it just takes a few seconds to work up the courage to trust the leg.
