https://www.sherlynpopelka.net/

Quote:
On may 8, 2011, our friend Rick was riding his motorcycle to work in Tuscon, AZ. As he passed through the intersection of E Speedway and N Campbell Ave. his life was changed forever. Rick was riding eastbound on Speedway, and had a solid green light. Sherlyn Popelka, fresh off a bender, underage, drunk and driving on a suspended license, was facing westbound, waiting to turn left onto Campbell. Sherlyn Popleka decided that waiting just wasn’t her thing so she turned left. As she did so she collided with Rick’s motorcycle, destroying it, and leaving Rick unconscious bleeding, and severely injured. Parts of the motorcycle were embedded into Sherlyn Popelka’s car. Sherlyn Popelka, unfazed and obviously hungry, didn’t even bother to stop to see if Rick was OK. Instead, she left the scene and drove to Taco Bell to watch the bloody scene unfold. Thankfully, there were enough witnesses present that the police had no problem finding the taco eating drunken golfer, Sherlyn Popelka.

Her rich parents hired lawyers to remove everything to do with her crimes from the Internet, issuing take down notices and alsorts.

Mad Mad Mad

It does go to show how (some) rich people think they are above the law.

So do (some) poor people generally, they just often don't have the means to so easily facilitate it Smile.

Good to see that's the first site you (I, at least) get when you Google her name.

Bear in mind we're only getting one side of the story here. I'd like to see an independent source to cite before I grab my pitchfork.

It says she was underage but I thought you could drive at 16 in most states Confused

Given that she's now a fugitive with little chance of becoming a pro golfer surely her parents expensive lawyers would have been better advising her to stay and face up to the charges.
Everybody knows that you only get a driving ban and fine for killing a biker so injuring one would be no worse the a speeding fine.

The police crash reports are pretty damning in themselves.

I don't know the whole story, but it sounds like a lot of his injuries could have been avoided if he was wearing a... helmet perhaps..

Tough break to him, and I hope I'm never in a similar situation (un-likely though!) but at time's like this, you've got to question the need vs want to wear a helmet...

Yea, but that'd be about $500 worth of damage; surely they can't be worth more than that when they've left the show room? Wink

I was going to suggest such, but used the F-word quite a bit recently, so thought I'd restrain myself!

Scrap metal value must be a fair bit based on the weight alone.

Arizona is one of those States that doesn't require helmet, but prohibits ape hangars. What a peculiar nation.

Title should be "flees US", rather than implying its over here, where people are less crazy.

What I dont understand is why this rich family didnt just pay out for the mistake, being rich and all that. Ill be honest, if that exact thing happened to anyone in my family, I would fly over and find them***. I hope she is very scared, and I hope somone is looking for her over there.

*** to make their lives hell. Perhaps riding past her house at 5am every morning on a 50cc moped with no exhaust. That would do it. Every morning.

Really? Rolling Eyes

Look at this person denying it all the way to court and in the end only cared about what happened to herself.
