Surely the police wouldn't go after simple smackheads looking to get high? It is a completely uneconomical way of policing and does nothing to stop the dope slangers.....
Hang on a minute.... If we arrest loads of junkies we can claim to have really high "drugs arrests" figure and make the department look good. |

You would think they have better things to do with their time, but the number of people busted for cannabis possession (myself included) with like 2 spliffs worth on them, and the whole fucking rigmorale and paperwork involved, they were more than happy to go ahead with, for what long term benefit? None.

Flippin 'stick a plaster on it' mentality again If there is a drug problem in your city, find the cause, instead of just fire fighting. Removing the fear of prosecution is not going to help people really is it, it's just going to encourage them surely? ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

A heroin user is going to jack up one way or the other, no encouragement needed. I think the idea is to have them all in one place, being sterile, disposing of needles safely, and stop them jacking up in public places. Whether or not somebody should be there on standby in case they overdose I'm not sure I agree on.

I'm guessing you don't do drugs? |
Might have partaken at some point in my life
| smegballs wrote: | I don't know anyone who doesn't do drugs "because they're illegal".
The way I see it, the criminal element of taking drugs is just a (somewhat annoying) risk that comes with the activity. Just like if you go skateboarding, you acknowledge that there is a inherent risk you might stack it and break an ankle. However the overall enjoyment of skating outweighs the small risk (well I guess it depends how good you are) that you might break a bone, so you go ahead and skate anyway.
Same with drugs, there is a small risk you might get busted but 99% of the time you won't come to any grief with the law. Also just like the risk increases when you do silly stuff on a skateboard, the risk increases if you take the piss and are blatant about doing drugs.
It would be interesting to compare the percentage of skaters who have broken a bone to the number of drug users who have been caught. |
Nah I didn't really mean to insinuate that keeping them completely illegal in all circumstances and all environments would mean people would be discouraged from starting/carrying on, once you're on that track you're kind of stuck on it. What I was trying to get at was that providing a safe, legal place to partake in their drug activities isn't exactly going to encourage the ones who might be thinking about a bit of rehab to go down that track.... I mean, what if there's someone on the edge thinking "Right, this is enough, I'm sat on a fucking street corner shooting up in front of kids, living out of a cardboard box and picking fag ends up off the street, this has gotta stop..." Then they see this little safe place open up, get cosy, and think fuck it, it's not that bad afterall...
If anything, leaving them on the streets to end up dead is one way of solving the problem (not that I would in ANY way agree with that). Unless this 'safe' place actively encourages rehabilitation I really don't see how it's benefiting the community in the long run.
Why are these people getting into drugs in the first place? Spend the money finding and sorting that out I say. ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

The old swissers seem to be taking a sensible approach...
https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5007962.stm
from 2006.
I hate the idea of welfare and I'm in favour of giving free medical-grade dia-morphine to smackheads. Smackheads being smackheads, you pay for it one way or another anyway; you either pay in the form of med-grade heroin (which is pretty cheap) or you pay for it in the form or thefts/mugging/robberies etc etc.
I'm pretty sure the overall cost would actually be cheaper to hand it out for free. Also, handing out free smack undercuts dealers and reduces their power-base which is good in my book too. |

That sounds good actually, rehab is encouraged, nurses and docs on hand, people are actually using it the way it is intended.
"Most doctors who treat long-term addicts agree there is always a point when an addict is ready to give up heroin, and there are staff here to watch for those signs, to counsel, and to refer patients for therapy." - Exactly how it should be I think. ____________________ What would you do in life, if you knew you could not fail?

I would put opium drinking fountains in public parks if I thought it would cut down on burglaries and muggings. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

lol you got done for having weed on you?

In brief, me and my friends were going on a bike ride through the woods, on our way we needed to pump up our tires at the garage, as we were heading there a riot van was parked up on the side of the road, as we got close around 8-9 police jumped out and told us to "get the fuck off your bikes NOW!!", so we slowed to a stop and my friend asked what the problem was, which prompted one of them to square up to him nose to nose and ask him if he wanted a fucking problem, and if so to keep that attitude up. Then proceeded a search and question each of us, as I was answeing the questions (name, address, where you going etc) after each answer the copper was saying "mate you want to drop the fucking attitude" "I don't like the looks you're giving me mate" etc etc. At this point I should stress I was giving absolutely no attitude at all, figuring if I just played ball we could get on with our bike ride in the woods, whereupon we would mug no one, beat no one up, rob anyone, or vandalise anything.
I had a £10 of solid on me, my mate had a couple of spliffs of weed in his ciggy pack, we were cuffed up and throw in the back of the van, taken to the police station whereby I had my fingerprints, dna and mugshot taken, oh and a full strip search including squatting 3 times with my skidders down, interviewed and then cautioned.
What a fantastic use of police time that was.
Oh and the reason they had for stopping us was that we matched the description of some kids spray painting a bus stop. Which was odd as one of our mates had red dreadlocks wearing a flourescent orange string vest with tattoos down his arms. No one matches that description. Ever.

What the actual fuck?!
Which county was this? Fucking cunts, never had an experience with the police like that thankfully, i'd have seriously considered a complaint if that happened to me, but it'd likely just be a massive hassle for fuck all or a half-assed apology at best
And they wonder why people don't respect the police ____________________ Fzr-600 1999 |

There are too many moralistic wankers in power to take anything like this to a sensible conclusion.
Bit like prostitution, bury your head in the sand and let the eastern european people smuggling syndicates enslave girls, or legalize it, drop the bottom out of the sex trafficking market and lose the next election.
Sod the girls, I want another 4 years of my expense account. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Birmingham crew.
Bizarrely they were parked up on the bristol road in Rednal/Rubery, but were actually the Aston division, quite what the fuck they were doing down our end I don't know. I imagine they were trying to do a big bust or something and get hoodwinked, so decided to take their rage out on us, as they were foaming at the mouth from the the word go.
