Just to let everyone know to keep off the roads in Lincolnshire this Saturday, unless you want a good laugh.
I have bitten the bullet and booked my first lesson on a big bike. So I'll be going from a 125 to a 650. Shocked God help me!!!

Have fun, i've booked for a lesson on a 600 for a couple of weeks time then my DAS Mod1. Looking forward to seeing what a big bikes like.

Just provisionally booked my DAS (dependent on getting the time off work).
Is £449 for 2 days training and mod 1 & 2 tests reasonable?

Have you riden before? I'm getting a deal of £30 per hour plus test fees but i've already passed my Mod 1 and 2 but only for a 125 so I'm doing a sort of ride around in the moring then test in the afternoon thing rather than a course. When I did look at "courses" though they allk seemed to be in the £400 to £500 region for up to a weeks training. Of course it how many hours training that's the thing, two days dousent sound like much but it might be lots of hours. You want to ask about what happens if you fail the tests.

Was offered hourly lessons at £25.

The two days are 9am-4pm taking mod 1 at the end of the second day. Five days later to arrive for mod 2 for 8am and take the test at 9 or 10 (the five days allows for cancellation without loss of fee in the event of failure of mod 1).

Have I ridden before?

Many years ago I owned a KS125 and then an RD250, but never took test and moved on to become car driver. Took CBT in February this year and have ridden pretty much daily since (YBR). Have ridden through wind, rain, snow, ice and even occasionally sunshine and loved every minute. Very Happy

Sounds like you will be just fine then as you can practice between the Mod1 and 2 on your YBR

I SURVIVED
and it was great Very Happy .
I was very nervous about getting on a bigger bike, especially such a big jump from 125 to 650, but as soon as I started to pull away the nerves stopped and a big smile came on my face, not that you could see through my helmet.
It was lovely being able to keep up with the traffic for the next couple of hours and we even got on an unrestricted road for a short blast (it was a blast for me) up to 60mph without the bike screaming its nuts off. My little 125 will only do 50mph on a flat with no wind.
The only problem I had was the bloody U turn. Everything else was ok, but could I do the U turn, could I bugger. So after approx. 10 attempts and failing we headed back to the shop and I went straight out and got on the 125 to practice. Got it right first time and every time after that.
I don’t know what I was doing wrong on the 650 but I just could not get it right, the instructor couldn't see either, but the pace was right and I got most of the way round and at the last second just before straightening up I would for some reason lean and that was it, the foot came out. I don’t know if I was over thinking and looking maybe too far ahead, any suggestions welcome Very Happy

on the U-turn, lean in the opposite direction to the turn, feather the rear brake, and keep the revs up a bit.
p.s. focus on where you want to end up and not the floor.

Thanks mjn51, I honestly thought that was what I was doing, but obviously not. Trouble is now I wont get another go on th bigger bike until the MOD 1.
As I mentioned before, when I do it on my little 125 I can do it all day every day. It's so frustrating and you only get the one chance at it on the test.

Good luck! I kept tensing up on the u-turn, was much better when I kept my for well clear of the rear brake so I knew I couldn't accidentally step on it and tip over. But that's the opposite of the advice above, I realise.
