Hi all

I fecked up the rivets on my new chain master link today...is a new master link likely to be universal as long as its for the right size chain? Ive got the x rings from the link I bodged up.

Size should be stamped on the chain e.g. 525 Should be able to get another link easy enough. How did you muck it up?

I need a link with hollow pins....my riveter is just a ball bearing press and I couldnt get it dead centre of the pins and they just got mashed. So do all chains have the same shape links?

Never come across hollow pin split links but a quick google search seems to point to push bike chains.

I'm no engineer but somehow doubt that hollow pins would be ideal on a motorcycle chain - could be wrong though.

When I replace chains, I usually use the two hammer method to peen the exposed edges of the pins. Never had a failure yet in over 20 years of riding/maintaining Smile

Get one from the same manufacturer. I once saw my mate cut a 525 chain to put a new link of the same size on, only to find it wouldn't fit.

I think that although the pitch will be the same, pin diameters can vary according to chain grade. In the case I mentioned the pins were too large on the rivet link to go through the holes in the side plates on the chain.

Wemoto stock a large range and will probably have the right one for your chain in stock. Thumbs Up

DID soft links have a hollow tip.

This is flared by the chain tool which has a ball shaped end on it.

Can't confirm the diameter of the pins though.

Thanks guys. Took a punt on an RK master link with hollow tipped ends. The shop guy said he couldn't guarantee the pin size would fit but it did! Sound.
