I looked into it a while back. Black and white pressed plates are legal for pre-'60s-ish vehicles (might have been '73, maybe?). Black and yellow ones are legal if they were originally fitted before about 1987 or so, as I remember. Think that was from reading some bits of Acts, can't give exact sources 'fraid.
But of course, the law's not straightforward, there might be more recent legislation that requires that all plates are retroreflective bar black/white ones for vintage things, IANAL, etc.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure slogans aren't allowed, if you really want to be legal. Allowed a garage name, I'm pretty sure, and required to have the address of the place that produced the plate, at least for new ones. ____________________ Yamaha RXS100 [returned to mate], 1982 Honda CM125 [stolen], 1982 Suzuki GS850G |
