Hi all,

My bike has a slightly annoying feature where it won't start unless the side stand is up. The starter motor cranks but engine won't run, as if the fuel tap is turned off.

Unless there is a particularly important reson for this, is there anyway of bypassing it?

Cheers
George

It is not actually a sidestand but a stabiliser which the wheel has fallen off, you can only use the bike with the sidestand up after you have passed you test. Thumbs Up

I imagine somewhere on the loom there's a connector that goes to the sidestand switch. Disconnect this and short it.

if you look at the side stand there is a like a mini cam which is actuated when the side stand it moved, pop a cable tie around this holding the cam in (this is if its like the RKV) if not you can disconnect the switch from the stand and just hide it in a fairing, or like other people have said theres two wires running to it (its obvious which when you look closely) just cut these wires and short them with a connector, got tons of connectors etc if you need any just let me know.

Don't know why you'd want to cut it out though!

My old 125 didn't have a sidestand safety switch, I set off with it down once, felt like I'd ridden over a brick when I leant over to that side.

The amount of times I've tried to put the bike into gear with the side stand down on my GSXR...

^^^ This.

The safety switch is there to prevent you riding off with the side stand down. Having seen a few riders catapulted off their bikes when a forgotten side stand digs in, it's a minor inconvenience to have one at the very worst.

It'd be handy to be able to start it without sitting on it, for if I'm running late to work on a cold morning and need to warm the engine.

Andy, I can imagine it's fairly similar, I'll have a look at it this weekend, cheers Very Happy

If it's in neutral and the sidestand is down, will it start? Mine does.

Then again mine isn't an exotic fruit, damn kiwi's.

Okay, so I didn't get a chance to disable the cutout, because the bastard thing has gone and bent to the point where I can't use it to stand the bike up anymore.

I've looked around online and can't seem to find anywhere that has them. Still under warranty from the dealer, so maybe I can wrangle a free one, but if not, what can I pinch the sidestand from to fit it?

Nope, had a closer look and it'd started to split. Pinched the stand off my old KMX and fitted it, disabled the cutout while doing do. WIN Very Happy
