QUICK HELP PLEASE!

Day before test and the back brake on my Yamaha SR 125 won’t release its self !

I have to release the brake by flicking up the pedal to go again.

When the back brake is pressed it won’t let go.

Help what I can do.

Slightly daft suggestion, but have you actually checked if the spring which makes it go back up is still there and correctly attached as if it was missing then it would do what you describe.

if its adisc brake the calliper just needs taking apart and cleaning, but it might take a bit longer than that,
if its a drum brake then the cable is getting stuck somewhere and you need to locate the point and find out whats causing it, could be a number of things.

Used to happen alot on my old CB. i took the spring off and stretched it a great deal to get it to return, And adjusted the rear brake rod to make the brake stay completly off when the peddel isnt pressed.

This only worked for a short period of time before i have to take out the back wheel, dismantle the drum, clean it out, file the edge on the brake shoe, and stretch and lube the springs. After that it worked perfectly for as long as i owned the bike.


If you need a quick fix just use force to release the brake and ride using just the front brake. But dismantling the drum is the only long term solution.
