Ok so the VTR, while I love the bike and would be loath to get rid of it, just is not practical for all the riding I do which consists of a couple of jollies out with friends, the odd trip to cornwall once a year or so and mostly to and from work town riding.
I'm looking at the new XJ6N as its a stunning looking thing.
Anyone own one? What are they like to live with? And what do you think for someone dropping from a 100bhp thou to a 78bhp 600.
And yes G... I am possibly heading back into the IL4 game.
The reason is purely because I'm not getting younger, most of my riding around is urban and the VTR is a thirsty beast and I was looking something still fun but more fuel economic and less leaned over. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

Alpha might have an older one up for sale.
You'll notice a little more revs are needed but that comes with added smoothness.
<G>Sure you can't stretch the budget to a used GSXR1000</G> |

I've no idea how tall you are but the xj's are pretty small.
If I was in your situation and had the budget for the yam, I'd be looking at a gen2 Versys. (I am, infact. I'll be buying one probably next year). Works at road speeds, 60mpg, etc. May not appeal to your inner tart however.
What is your budget? Surely XJ6's are approaching street triple money? |
Im a short arse at 5ft6. Short little legs too. It'll be used, as said, for more town riding than anything else and anyone thats been out with me can attest to. I dont ride like a twat so the extra power is wasted on me. I do love the grunt the Storm has but I just dont get out enough to justify the use and she drinks like a fish on the weekly work run.

Dont want an older one. I like the new one. As for the Gixxer. I want a more fuel economical bike and a more sensible one not something I would be silly on. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

SV650 A nice pointy one has a fair low seat, not overly powerful, but probably more "in tune" with your style being a smaller twin.

I rode my old 2010 XJ6 Divvy the other day after nearly 2 months on the superduke, so I may have some relevant input for you.
It's very low, feels quite heavy and very slow steering compared to the KTM. It's very slow as well, and took some getting used to having to use higher revs once more. But it's very smooth. I imagine it wouldn't take too long to get used to it, but until you do it will seem pretty weak.
Obviously you know what to expect, I can remember that when I was used to the XJ it was totally adequate, did everything you could ask of it, but not much more.
Radis pretty much sums it up in his post. Mpg is not as good as you'd expect, but still way better than a litre v-twin. Seat's comfy for a couple of hours, but can hurt after 3-4. It's fine, fairly good, but so are many other bikes. |

Also going to be a boring bike, despite the extra cylinders .
If it wasn't for the 'leaned over' bit, I'd say have a look at a TRX850 - seen people get pretty decent mpg out of them, though I didn't.
(Paddy's already made my first suggestion, of course ... though I'd certainly classify that as boring too, just at least it's boring and fast ). |
