Indicators

Hi guys,
I have just installed new micro indicators to the front of my bike and I've noticed that both front and rear indicators blink faster and there is a funny noise prior to them lighting up (on initial blink....there fine after that). I'm not gonna fry my NSR's electrics am I?

I believe Acumen do a unit to correct the flash rate if you've changed the wattage or using LEDs.

It's the Indicator Driver you'll need, either universal or for your model (but make sure it'll fit, if not get universal).

yeh mate I got the same with my nsr, I fitted some little indicators and they blink faster and make like a sort of clicking/grinding noise before they turn on, I hope it aint gonna fry my electrics too, Neutral

. On mine it's because the wattage is different, i.e. it should be 30 but the indicators only give out 15 watts or something like that anyway.

I bet it sounds like a kind of grating 'boing' noise. This is just the tag on the relay bouncing slightly when it hits the electromagnet as the new flashers are drawing less current than the original ones and so don't attract the tag as firmly. Don't worry about it.

Providing your flashers give between 60 and 120 flashes per minute, it is perfectly legal. I even find that a faster flash rate tends to attract drivers attention more than standard in a 'look how fast those flashers are going' way. Try it and see.

also I should add that if the light bulbs or L.E.D.'s can not be swapped for the correct wattage then you can over come the problem by fitting 8 power resistors, each being 10 watts each.
The way to do it is by fitting 2 of the resistors in PARRALEL of the indicator wires thus creating a 20 watt circuit for the relay to come under load and drawing enough current to cure the fast flashing problem, you need 8 of the resistors to complete a bike (2 resistors on each indicator) but if some of your indicators are still the standard incandecnt bulbs it would not be neccessary to install the resistors at that particular indicator hope this is some help to you Very Happy
