First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong section.

My bike got nicked at around midnight last Friday.

Theft's been reported to the police, now I'm just wondering what to do with the insurance. First time dealing with this sort of thing. I don't have high hopes of the bike being recovered, and it's insured (fully comp). Should I just make a claim and is it going to affect my NCB?

Pic if anyone in the York area wants to keep an eye out:

If the bikes worth less than 1k and you've ridden for at least 1 year, then I wouldn't bother claiming, they'd just make it back off you in the next 5 years anyway..

Also when renewing, bump that down to third party Wink

sorry to hear that, but the real criminals here are the insurance company's, they'll always win, no matter what they supposedly would do....

Sadly, I agree with the above.

You're paying for a service, and they know they can stitch you up next time if you actually want to use that service, so they don't mind paying out. You'll lose your no claims bonus, you'll have to declare you've had a claim for the next five years, and your premiums will shoot up.

You'll regret claiming for it if you do. Just see if it turns up and count your losses really. I only reported my CBR to the police, not the insurers, luckily. It turned up, with no (extra) damage done to it.

Although you can expect to pay the police / recovery company a nice little recovery fee to the tune of £200+ (this happened to me, despite them finding it down the road, where I could have pushed it home from).

Makes me wonder what on earth would be the motivation behind this theft?

Putting that aside...I agree that claiming would be crazy. Your excess would likely be more than what they would pay out and your increased premium would kill you for 5 years.

In all fairness id probably be looking at insuring it at TPO rather than comp for the above reasons. You're just giving insurers free cash each year.

Hope it turns up without any damage though..that would be your best outcome.

Fuck - sucks man, that's a lovely little bike. Anyway, I'll keep me eye out. Doubt it'll get this far out, but I'll be looking anyway.

Awww that’s a proper nice wee bike that is Sad

I am inclined to agree with the others about claiming. Do yourself a favour, go to https://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk/ and run your details through with and without a claim. Then bare in mind the difference between them will be with you for 5 years.

You will then see that you end up paying the full price of the bike back to the insurance companies. Sad

Which bit of York?

Suggest checking local fields and parks for the remains. Usual Modus Operandi is it's likely to have been torched after playing with.

Best of luck finding it.

As to insurance it's up to you but weighing the pros and cons probably a no for that bike (the insurance companies will know this and so I suspect do the thieves).

It's a nice city in general, I used to live there, you always knew where you were by looking at the Minster.

I've got it insured with H&R Insurance, value of £500. Guess that's still not worth claiming for? Paying about £171 a year, fully comp because it was only about £10 more than TPO Shocked

Not sure what the exact area will be called, but right by Water End, next to Clifton.

Bloody dipshits. I actually looked forward to going to work simply because of the ride there and back. Now it's back to plodding the pavement, not fun in the blazing sun. Damn assholes.

Gonna do my tests soon and the last thing I need is a lack of practice and being out of pocket since I'm not claiming. Damn them assholes again.

But then we have to pay for the cunts the rest of their wretched lives, a quick braining from an overhead branch will suffice Laughing
