ok so i have been working away for a while and bike has jus been stood.

came home for a holiday break to get bak on the road.

its a 2001 model,

ok so dip beam and main beam are not working however the light at the back at the bottom is working i think its supposed to be a side light which stays on all time with the dip. so i got both new bulbs h1 and h3 for dip and main and replaced them, still no luck.

this is what baffled me , if i press the "flash" trigger the main beam will come on. but using the switch for the lights down is dip up is main, non work, so i dismantle the choke housing where the switch is inside and cleaned it out had a fiddle, all terminals to the switch are solid, still no luck. checked all fuses. all fine ......... jus cant get my head around this

if some one can please help it will be greatly appreciated im hoping its just a small error that im missing.

thanks for looking

Quick way to get back on the road, tape up all lights and switches for lights.

But, check the actual switches themselves, might have just corroded a little inside.

The buld works, given the flash option, so yes, I'd open the switch gear, bit of WD40 and lightest wet and dry/emery paper and see if the contacts are clean.

ive done what you have said , opened the switch up its self cleaned terminals with wd, although they looked ok anyway, i have also tried crossing the terminals manually with a conductor to see if the lights come on still nothing =[

How is the wiring/fuses... think the flasher might mean the fuse is fine but worth a check.

If I remember correct, on my RS, you had the lights off/side light/dip on the left hand side and the main beam/dip control on the left along with the flash button.

yes correct its on the left and theres only two movements of the lights, switch down which is sidelamp/dip on , and up which is main on, then there is the flash trigger which is accessible via your index finger

Yup, I would check the right hand one too... just incase the sidelight/dip selector has corroded.

i have a rx50 which had funny lights, what i did was take the light off and clean the connectors, then wedve something behind the coneectors, some rubber plumbers gasket rings wrapped in insulation taped seemed to work, if you do try the dont wedge anything to tight and nothing that will conduct electricity, just something to keep the connectors pressed tightly against the bulb.

im no mechanic, im just saying what i did Smile

I've got the same problem whereby the light flasher is working but the dip/main beams & indicators are not working. Everything was working fine when I bought the bike then I had it trailered down south and a week later nothing was working. The bike has got a new battery, I've been through and disconnected/cleaned all connectors, I've tried a new headlight bulb, I've put all new fuses in, I've tried another (2nd hand) left-switchgear....... I'm really stuck now, can anybody please help Sad
