I'd of thought there would have been a fair few threads on this when I did a search, found none, not even Old pinks recent one.

Anyway, I know there are sites just for this question and I will look at them, I would just like to know what you lot would reccomend/have done, on a personal level.

So... What have you done in Amsterdam/what is there to do and what's the best way to go about it? And no I'm not just talking about the ladies of the night, but I'm also not excluding them from this question neither Wink

Any problems you've come across?
What's their general attitude/vibe towards tourists?

Anything to look out for with regards to the po po?

Thanks, stories more than welcome!

Really depends what you're there for. If you're just looking to get shit faced and high then none of what follows will interest you.

To eat:

Cafe De Klos, 41 Kerkstraat - Get there before 6pm
Caramba, Lindengracht 342 (mexican)

To See:

Rrijksmuseum, 1 Museumstraat - Just had a major (10 year!!) refurb.
Keukenhof - ok, not actually in Amsterdam but Lisse, just get the train.

I'll add more as I remember..

Main library near centraal station = free wifi and cheap clean shitters.

Just go up the reception and ask to register for a visitors account, they will ask to see your passport and then you get free wi-fi.

The library is actually fucking cool, go up to the first floor and there is a mahoosive music collection. Loads of CD racks filled to the brim to listen to. Also is loads of Mac's which have a massive digital music library where you can sit and listen, quite a good game is searching for the most obscure music you can think of, chances are they will have it!

If you're renting out pushbikes, I'd reccomend star bikes, again just a short walk from centraal station. Cheapest rates I could find, and their bikes haven't got all the ghey branding that most of the other rental firms have.

Have fun Thumbs Up

Amsterdam is a place to go and relax and enjoy yourself
I lived there for 5 of the best years of my life, just take it as it come's
be yourself (as long as your not an **hole) you will be fine
just don't try to do the usual everything to excess like most tourists do

chill and relax take your time and don't do the "kid in a candy shop" routine I see all to often
as for the ladies (I lived in the RLD) if thats what you want to do take your time
look around they work shifts and rotate the booths so choose wisely and not the first pair of tits you see
maybe do the RLD tour beforehand, very informative and open

cop's are cool as long as your not a dickhead, or pisshead
I have even got hash from a cop at 2am on my way home when the coffee shops had closed
but please dont just walk up randomly asking for hash, this was a cop I knew well through other friends Cool

I went solo earlier this year, I'm not a regular smoker so didn't spend much really. Hung out with people I met in my hostel, was a great time. Didn't really do much, I have been a few times before and did the touristy bits back then. I went to unwind and relax, eating 2 space cakes after a joint then heading to the cinema to watch The Life of Pi was the highlight of my trip.
